Re: Swansea City v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Probably want to watch a replay to fully digest what just went on.
Hard to see, though, how we could have defended their third goal any better. Brilliant centering pass to find an attacker who was marked both in front and behind. At lest that was my initial impression.
Remarkable resilience from our boys.

I just hope we don't see the usual arrogance from Kinnear that we don't need to do business in January as we're top blah blah. We must bring a couple in, even if only loans.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:13 pm Hoping that us going top will put some pressure on the other contenders. We need to show some of that relentlessness that Leicester did. Put more pressure on the rest.

Would like to see us clear by Christmas, it's not a strong division and we're the alpha team in it.

I just hope teams don't take inspiration from Swansea because I think we'd struggle.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:22 pm I think thats key to our overall good defensive record. We're dominant and teams are afraid to attack us. Bogle and Firpo are picked for their attacking qualities rather than defensive qualities. As, SubH said, we look better at the back when Ampadu (or even Gruev) plays.
DF teams control possession to defend, they probably aren't great at actually defending.
His Norwich teams conceded lots, not just in the Prem either.
As much as we complain about the parking the bus it probably suits us defensively

Biggest difference is that last season at this point we were 8 points behind both Ipswich and Leicester at this point and having to play every game desperate for a win and knowing a loss could almost have been the end of any automatic chance. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:08 pm points difference - 24 season/23 season

Next up last season we drew at Rotherham
Last season we take 10 from the next 12 points
(and us taking 10 points from the next 4 saw us still 8 behind Leicester and 7 behind Ipswich - full throttle wasn't closing the gap)

If we can find a quality starting ten Farke will actually start then I'd love that, assuming Farke has no intention of starting Solomon there. Doubt there will be much available at proven striker that's better than what we have
Ampadu back will be a big boost second half of the season

Re: Swansea City v Leeds Utd Match Thread
It's the cause and effect. We looked dangerous going forward because Swansea weren't parking the bus. As such we had space up front and out wide that we don't usually get - flip side is that we are then defending against more players than we are used to defending against.ElKapitan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:11 pm Christ.... That was stressful but a great game of football with a good ending. How good is Tanaka!?
Really impressed with us going forwards, though worry how easy they cut us apart at times and Tanaka cleared up a couple of very dangerous situations by himself.....
Top of the table so something's working. See where it goes though, as so many good footballing sides in EFL I can imagine more games like this before the end of the season.

We need at least 20 wins by March international break, as we know the run in will be an issue. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:36 pm Would like to see us clear by Christmas, it's not a strong division and we're the alpha team in it.

Stronger division and we were better. Those results so far don't include our dominant run from last season... Where we can catch up is the back end assuming Farke can keep the players fresh. Other teams will get better, more agressive chasing results for one reason or another. Right now everyone seems to be playing wait and seeweasel wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:37 pm Biggest difference is that last season at this point we were 8 points behind both Ipswich and Leicester at this point and having to play every game desperate for a win and knowing a loss could almost have been the end of any automatic chance.

A Rodon injury will be like MC losing Rodri imo. Right now he's the keystone of this team

Think we need another midfielder, so Tanaka isn't run into the ground like Geo, Jimmy and Rodon were last year - Tyler Morton would be a good signing, another creative player maybe McAtee, and an experienced GK while selling Mes.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:39 pm If we can find a quality starting ten Farke will actually start then I'd love that, assuming Farke has no intention of starting Solomon there. Well that was a messy mish-mash of a game.
So many errors, especially at the back.
Quality play from Tanaka, James, Gnonto & Byram.

Re: Swansea City v Leeds Utd Match Thread
I don't think it will change how most teams play against us. It was similar to the 5-4 win v Birmingham under Bielsa but after that game it was back to normal. I think if most teams attack us we would just pick them off on the break and win comfortably. Swansea played their way today but other teams probably wouldn't be able to play that way - last season it undid Swansea whereas this time round they took their chances in the first half. We then had normal service second half until after we went in front and then Swansea came at us again.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:37 pm I just hope teams don't take inspiration from Swansea because I think we'd struggle.

Swansea always impress me when I see them, they have done for years.... They really should be a perennial playoff team.

I mean he gets criticism for being boring but that is often the case against tactically negative teams like Millwall etc.
If all teams played like Swansea I have absolutely no doubt we’d win the league as we have so much counter attacking power. We would concede but we would win a lot of games like today.

Re: Swansea City v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Why did we sit back & invite crosses into the box, as we can't stop them & we struggle to defend crosses? As soon it was 3-3, we created a lovely move & scored immediately.
The air was blue here when Swansea equalised, how to chuck two points away through slackness brought on by ourselves!
Sitting back doesn't suit our style of play, as all our defenders are prone to mistakes.
Defensively, we are not great, even though stats suggest we are!
Fortunately, we saw the light & created a great goal after much fannying about.

Has Farke learnt re subs or has he always been better than the grandstand managers say.

I saw your comment about that challenge earlier. I actually liked it and it increased my rating for him. Loved that he had the eagerness to bust a gut, get back and make the challenge. He won the ball. But it did look a little reckless with 2 feet off the ground. But full credit to him for the energy and commitment. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 5:35 pm James for me, constant thorn all afternoon and nigh on perfect. I faulted Rodon for the 3rd. Seemed to be paying too much attention to the Swansea player. I think he could have got to the ball instead. I might be wrong. But that was my perception of it.
