Why did our wall jump, with Semenyo's free-kick hit hard & low?
They jumped to make a bigger barrier because Aaronson was lying on the ground acting as the draught excluder. Whoever positioned Aaronson, if in fact anyone did but no one checked, got it completely wrong. He was lying down protecting an area between the post and the corner flag to the keepers right and not protecting the goalmouth at all FFS. Don't think that is down to Aaronson. I imagined its the keepers job to position the wall

The lads played very well in this match but one or more individuals need a damn good rollicking for the amateurish mistakes at the free kick. Hopefully Stach will learn not to give away cheap free kicks in dangerous positions as punishment in the Premier League will be severe

I am sure we are all a little surprised how well United played but feel for the fans who were in the Stadium. It was said earlier that "It feels like a loss" that' s how I felt at the end
Just thought bringing on Tanaka who has just returned from injury was a mistake when a strong defender might have been better just someone to hold onto the ball.
Having said all that, some teams going down early in the game might have been disheartened. we not only fought back but within a whisker of winning. I thought they were
excellent. (bring on them Spurs.)

Bringing on Tanaka was a bad move.

Not much game-time, appeared slow & sloppy.

Lost possession twice & a beaten aerial challenge which led to a goal & another opportunity for the cherries to score, and if not for a superb block from Rodon, with the last kick of the game, we could a lost the game which we deserved to win.

For Bournemouth's equaliser, Struijk was beaten in the air, Bogle & Ampadu lost their markers at the back-post. Such a shame as all three of them had a good game.

That's the Premier League for you, players/teams are punished for individual errors at this level.

Unfortunately our substitutions didn't work out yesterday which means we have question Farke's judgement on this occasion.

Personally I would have brought on James Justin in place of Aaronson and there's no way that DCL should have been subbed off just before a set piece into our box.

Yeah I thought that too. Can only presume it was to protect us from a left footed strike and maybe Darlow thought he didn't need Aaronsen to be further accross as any shot going past Aaronsen's feet would be near enough for him to save. As it was it was near enough for him to save but coming through the wall like that he didn't get to see it quickly enough. Hopefully though something we learn from.

I don't really think it is a case of the wrong substitution even though Tanaka gave away the free kick. Most managers make a substitution at that point to try to disrupt the game and waste some time. As it was Tanaka in doing what he did actually did something very similar to what Aaronsen would have likely done, got the ball thought he had more time than he did and dribbled into trouble. If Tanaka had played the ball forward early we had a great chance to get a third goal.

The substitution of Harrison nearly worked a treat, he was very unlucky with his long range shot.

I think it is just one of those things and that we should have defended the free kick better. Annoying but equally could say Farke got the starting line-up wrong by playing Stach as he gave away the free kick for the first goal.

Re: Leeds Utd v Bournemouth Match Thread

Finished watching the second half last night. Was giving thumbs up to different reactions in the match thread. Absolute dagger blow to concede again in injury time! Cant help but feel we’ve been aggrieved of three points so far (when adding the 1 point from Fulham). Such is life in the Premier League.

Thought Longstaff’s strike was a beauty. Also thought he had a great game while Stach and Amps were more muted in midfield. Think Bournemouth’s midfield is a handful so not terribly surprising.

Did anyone notice the passage of play right after Harrison came on? We looked really crisp with quick, decisive, one touch passes. A transformed team immediately after that sub. Only lasted 2-3 minutes, but thought that passage of play was top notch. Yes, thought Harrison showed up with a solid match performance. Nearly bagged a long range effort, as well. I suspect Okafor has the higher ceiling, but he needs to start putting in stronger efforts. He was a missing person for 30+ minutes which isn’t excusable as a winger.

Thought Bogle and Gudmondson were stars again. Thought Rodon and Struijk were solid again at the back. And Rodon with a goal! (And could’ve bagged another). Thought DCL was a bit unlucky. He worked really hard and was always giving their defense something to think about. And thought Brendan had a decent game. Yes, a couple poor decisions I could’ve done without, but largely another good outing from him.

Tanaka allowed the Bournemouth goalscorer to stand goal side of him for the free kick and then didn't try to track his run at all.

Very poor in my opinion with the result on the line and having fresh legs.

Agree Jammy, all around me were scratching our heads with DCL's substitution, there was no need to take him off.

Justin or Bijol would have been better options.

Tanaka was like a headless chicken.

Subs are used to run down the clock, It is a time wasting tactic.
You see the ref trying to shoo DCL off the pitch, but bringing of Nmench
Was a mistake should have been a defender... the commentators even said you
should never bring someone one cold for a free kick.

I think the idea is always to jump to make it harder for a free kick to go over the wall. That's why Aaronsen was on the floor as it was presumably pre-determined that we would jump. Am guessing Semanyo was fully expecting us to jump and as such simply thought why not hit it as hard as he could, to the right of Aaronsen, and see what happens.

You do wonder why we had our shortest player laying behind the wall. :-D

Commentator said Farke is not keen on having a setpiece coach - that it changes the dynamic in the coaching team. Not sure I agree - surely he as manager can manage that?

We did score a great goal from a setpiece last week and Joe's goal yesterday looked like a planned routine.
And - to me - our corners and free-kicks are much better.

So time will tell.

Yeah, I thought so too. :roflmao:

Amps says "Brendon get on the ground behind the wall"
Brendon - "why me? I may get a ball on the back of the head"
Amps - "If you dont, you'll get a slap on the front of the head".
Brendon - "OK boss, but Im going to curl up in a ball".

Seriously though, Brendon wanted to get involved in everything yesterday. He was great.

Given DCL's injury record it makes sense to not flog him to death. I wa surprised he wasn't brought off sooner.

It is what it is regarding the Tanaka sub. Last year Tanaka was probably our most composed midfielder. Just as easy to bring one of the others one and they made an error. Errors are made all the game but it is usually only the ones that lead to goals that people remember. And at the end of the day it was a freekick near the halfway line not like he gave a penalty away. I made the point elsewhere that Tanaka replaced Aaronsen but in dwelling on the ball and losing possession needlessly and giving the foul away he did a very Aaronsen thing. Very much like for like!

Surely becuse you want your biggest in the actual wall so as to be more likely to block the usual shot. Similar reason as to why you usually had your shortest players on the posts when defending corners. The shorter players are less likely to win headers against taller players but the flipside is that they'd be less likely to head off the line if the ball was high up.
