Gruev and Justin spoke very well on the Sky Sports post match interview. Both very articulate. Gruev thinks about the game.
I was impressed.

Re: Liverpool v Leeds United Match Thread
Hats off to the Herr Farke.
He shuffles the pack and Bornauw and Justin look like they have been playing every week.
I couldn't help but wonder during the game, Leeds approach today was essentially what we had to put up with week in week out during those 4 seasons in the championship when we were knocking on the door of promotion.
Big bastards FC. The low block. Make them earn it. Frustrate the stronger team. Get physical. Time waste.
I wonder if I searched through the fan forums of Preston, Birmingham, Bristol etc for those games would I have found so many complaints against the manager.
Or would they have been a bit more pragmatic about the realities of football.

Farke seems to be learning fast.
Or maybe he already knew…

This has been my issue with it for ages. If your body position determines whether you are offside, then the rules are wrong. If DCL is stood in the same exact spot but has his right leg further back, the goal stands, thats nonsensical.ElKapitan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 7:33 pm Rules are rules.... Its s**t but as long as they are applied fairly (debatable) then it equals itself out. I'd like to see a arms/legs rule brought in so that they don't count.... A hand offside is laughable as is a foot and detracts from the game in a big way for me.

Surely you aren't trying to rewrite history to try and point score?
You yourself were very critical of him pre Man City half time as was basically everyone (and most were supportive of the sack).
He deserves credit since but please let's not pretend everyone saw this coming to try and be smug.
He's done well since, hopefully keeps it up.

I think a few fans have changed their tune of late. Not everyone was a staunch fan. At least you have been consistent Cjay.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 10:47 pm Surely you aren't trying to rewrite history to try and point score?

He got plenty of criticism pre Man City half time from almost everyone and deserved it.
We were struggling, we'd failed to beat teams like Forest or Burnley or even Brighton and Bournemouth who aren't having good seasons themselves by their standards.
Many were frustrated and it was understandable hence the very real sack talk (and not just on here).
However He has since shown a pleasing amount of improvement in many areas he was being criticised, game management, flexibility, tactical acumen etc.
It's very pleasing to see and he's shown he may be capable of keeping us up, credit where it's due.
But giving it eye rolls as if this was obviously something he could do based on 0 evidence to try and point score, not having that

People talk like Farke wasn’t to blame for the patch of awful results we went through - most on here called it, that tactical changes were required rather than thinking we could play how we did in the championship. A change of manager it was argued would give new perspective and tactics. Now thankfully Farke himself came to a similar realisation, ditched his stubborn streak and started to act like a premier league manager - whilst I admit I wanted him gone, which was entirely justifiable at the time I am now delighted for us and Farke that he is reaping the rewards and not some Jonny-come-lately

Re: Liverpool v Leeds United Match Thread
Some of us just recalled that historically speaking that each time Farke made changes for the new season his sides were slow starters but thenc caught up after the first couple of rocky months.
Something the owners knew about. Something many fans ignored.
Something similar hopefully is in the offing here hopefully.
There is a long way to go but he has protected his job now so best get used to it.
Let's hope that he is allowed to remove more of the unneeded and strengthen his squad with a decent addition or two.

It's now starting to look like the recruitment last summer wasn't so bad after all. No superstars but everyone doing a job for the team at PL level.

If you split the season in half has he always got better in the 2nd 23 games than the first?

Re: Liverpool v Leeds United Match Thread
We do have a lot of fickle fans or fans that have knee jerk reactions. Unlike others my support for him never waivered and never has throughout his time in charge of us. If we had gone a few more matches without picking up points and playing poorly though it might have got to the point where I might have felt a change was needed.Cjay wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 11:39 pm He got plenty of criticism pre Man City half time from almost everyone and deserved it.

Hopefully he will make a believer out of you Cjay although if we won the Champions League with Farke you would still likely be ready with a list of managers who would have done it better!

Almost a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. If he'd changed the formation and way we played at the start of the season and we then had a bad start fans would be saying he was stupid to change to a system that the players were unfamiliar with.Irish Ian wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 12:00 am Some of us just recalled that historically speaking that each time Farke made changes for the new season his sides were slow starters but thenc caught up after the first couple of rocky months.

Like you said he started both previous seasons with us slowly before building us into a juggernaut. I think the first season under him we simply peaked too soon and us going top when we did was the start of our demise that season. Last season we were relentless and learnt from the season before and held our nerve. He did similar with Norwich, the season he won the title he was under real pressure of the sack early on, espeically after losing 3-0 at home to Bielsa's Leeds side. Yet that side gathered momentum and were relentless. Even in the season when Norwich sacked him he won his last premier league match in charge - who knows what might have happened if they kept him and built momentum.
As for fans saying he doesn't make changes look at how ruthless he was with Piroe. Identified something not working and changed it. He also did make a tactical change to our formation of last year basically getting rid of our number 10 to allow for a more defensive midfield presumably in an effort to make us harder to beat. However despite initial early success we had started leaking goals and not looking like scoring.
