If you sit back like that you expect to concede, Nmecha had a chance with a diving header but that was about it second half...

And that is the point.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 4:59 pm Good point away from home against a top team.
Gutting we didn't hold on for the win though, don't quite have the strength in depth to swap out both Stach and Gruev for similar players.
Depth takes time.

Re: Aston Villa v Leeds United Match Thread
Would have taken a point.
Disappointing when you consider how poor Villa were for the first half and how the 2nd half panned out like clockwork as we got deeper.
1st half in particular we had a good off the ball structure imo, pressing was intelligent.
2nd half it wasn't so much, pressing disappeared and we got deeper and strikers more isolated.
Poor finishing though or touches from Nmecha and DCL was costly.
Stach was immense and Rodon as well and Darlow made some good saves (all he it I think I missed the best one).
Satisfied but kinda feel it should and could have been more.

To be fair, a point away from home against the team third in the table isn't a bad result. Be watching West Ham now.

That was a crying shame we so deserved the win, and anybody who says Villa were poor are doing Leeds players a disservice. The work we put in to keep Villa frustrated was immense. Nothing negative about that performance, Villa needed a poxy goal. We will stay up.

Bittersweet point that. Would've taken a draw before the game, since a point away at top 3 isn't to be sniffed at. But after leading until the very end of regulation time and to concede feels like a lost opportunity.
Not blaming Nmecha for missing that headed chance after coming on, 9 times out of 10 that goes in.

He looked none too bad to me, just knackered..... Same as gruev but stach still looked faster.
We are losing so many points from winning positions late on.... I get the substitution to an extent and in an ideal world we bring on another tall player to replace but when we know we're going to be under the cosh with balls pumped into the box taking off your 6'6 midfielder for the last 10 doesn't make sense....
Same with DCL in other games where we've drawn late on due to an equaliser.... We cut off the outlet to take off pressure and regardless of whether they're tired they offer so much more than anyone else we can bring on.
So frustrated with our business in Jan.... Buonotte doesn't look good enough for the U21's and we should not have considered players we needed to get up to speed.. Definitely better players available who could improve us and I refuse to believe Forest are a more attractive proposition.

Away to a 3rd placed Premiership team & not happy with a draw ? Gutted with the late goal but a fantastic point, these draws will keep us up.

Yes we should be satisfied with a draw away to high flying Villa, although not with the very late lucky thigh of Tammy.
If I'd have staked my correct score bet it would have been 2-1 to Villa.

Not sure what that has to do with strikers. Poor Longstaff corner maybe but you don't need to tell me how crap Longstaff is

A good away point again.
Doesn't hide the fact that we have only scored 9 points away from home though, and have conceded 18 goals in all competitions from the 80th minute onwards.

I didn't think Stach looked tired, seemed to find a second wind just before he came off and was playing well again

Only saw the game from 62 minutes onwatds
Once again after dominating the first-half apparently, we sat back & the inevitable happened again.
Nevertheless, a excellent point.

Three game run where we were expected to probably get nothing, and we have 2 points with City to play.
Great point at Chelsea, great point at Villa.
Great attitude from the whole group, playing their hearts.out for the fans and manager.
