The Hamburg rumour has been around for a while, apparently eminating from a statement made by their chairman.

I think Farke would really like to keep him. As everyone has said here, he has proven his value in this squad and is a good fit.

I'd try to sell Piroe before Bornaauw. We would simply have to bring in a similar profile player to replace him. Makes no sense.
Not sure though of the clauses in his contract. If he really wants starting 11 football, it may be hard to stop him.

From what I've read, this is perhaps more down to the player than us pushing him out. He wants more minutes and will likely start more often if he goes.
Word is Leeds want 6 to 8million for him and arent keen on loan to buy option

Elvedi (again) is a rumiured replacement - who could well be a step up (like Tarik was).

If he's not in tomorrow's squad, we can likely say he's leaving.

Elvedi won't come to play 10 minutes every 5/6 games.... We use Justin as the 4th CB we have the excellent Cresswell as a 5th and Ampadu makes 6 in a real emergency

I'd be happier with the DMF we're looking at, we have a starting spot available for him plus he covers for Amps. Tanaka and Gruev would be good squad members..

Cant disagree with any of that, but we do need some sales - Joffy is getting closer to leaving, some at least one of Piroe, Bornauw or Gnonto will go.

Elvedi has a good relationship with Farke who has described hom as a natural leader. Rumour is he is quite happy to come to Leeds and the club accept they could lose him - it will come down to the fee. Others also interested of course.

Like I said, I'm a fan of Bornauw - he has been good when he's played and he has started in the pre-season, which says something.

We cant use Justin as back up for both Gabi and Bogle, we need a Bornauw type profile in the squad.

Will be an interesting couple of weeks.

Hardly like they had a long time together.

But loaning out Bornauw makes no sense.

Spending significantly more in fees and probably wages on a player who turns 30 next month to be a backup makes even less sense.

Surely you keep Bornauw unless it's a permanent? And If that happens you sign a younger left footed cb as we've only got one.

him leaving on loan is just as silly as the clauses that allowed players to leave on loan when we were in the championship. If a club cannot afford to buy him then Bornauw needs to suck it up and get on with playing for us as and when called upon and not being as injury prone.

I doubt very much he was given assurances that he would be starting when we signed him as we already had Rodon and Struyjk and had signed Bijol - and at that point we were playing 2 centre-backs not 3. Yes harsh that he may at times found himself behind JJ but JJ proved that he was dependable both ability wise and by being available rather than injured.

Yep I agree with all that. Would be sorry to see him go. Not sure what else is on the go. Farke seems to like Bornauw - he has praised him many times after performances and, like I say, started him against Leipzig. He's played quite a bit so far this preseason.

And its not like Pascal who has come out and said for him it was about European football.
Hamburg are not Brighton. They're recently promoted - like us - finished mid-table, and dont have the sort of financial backing we do.

Unless Bornauw just wants to go back to Europe and closer to home. Hes very quiet and reserved. Dont get much from him - like Tanaka.

I'm with you Victor. He played more minutes than anyone else today (I think?) and ... again... did well. If we were sending him out, as the rumours are saying, why would we do that??

I am hoping this was a message from manager and club to him and to Hamburg.

I have no doubt he will play more this season. It would be crazy to lose him, unless he is hell bent on going back to Europe??

This is a bit different to most other loans though. Our prior loans have been, mainly, players who havent been performing, constantly injured, etc.
That's not the case with Seb.

From the manager's interview yesterday its pretty clear the only reason Seb wouldnt be staying is if HE wants to go elsewhere to play more football and be more of a first choice.

So maybe, just maybe, if he's OK with a loan to experience another team with a view to coming back, then it may be a low risk option.
If he has a great season and they want to keep him, we potentially get more money for him in 12 months. If he decides the grass was greener on the other side, we get a solid squad player back.

Just a thought.

Tough! Bornauw signed a 4 years (or was it 5) contract!

He has to be worth £15m. 25 years old. Model pro. Premiership standard. Does not matter how much we paid. We paid £17m for Raph. 2 years later we sold him for £45m (too cheap). He has to be worth £150m now. Hamburg can go whistle if they think they can get Bornauw on the cheap. If I was manager: that's the figure I'd slap on Bornauw. I suppose we will very much have to disagree on this one
