Re: Chelsea vs Leeds United - Carabao Cup - Match Thread
A summary by Lucky of the pundits trying to analyse and rationalize the Chelsea, Leeds cup game, where rational thought crumbles under the weight of existential despair.

I understand your point, and symbols absolutely mean different things to different people. But that works both ways. The Confederate flag, for example, has extremely ugly associations for many Americans, yet plenty of Brits have used it simply as American/Southern decoration without intending that meaning.Orange Box wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2026 5:28 am I accept that the balaclava is, as you say, AI generated and intended as a bit of fun. I’m not suggesting that you or your alter-ego personally intended any offence.
But symbols and images can mean very different things to different people. Here in Britain a black balaclava is not simply a piece of comic imagery. It has very strong associations with political extremism, violence and people who deliberately conceal their identity while attacking others. Given what we have been seeing in places such as Dover, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Nottingham this week, those associations are particularly raw at the moment.
For me, there is an additional personal dimension. Images associated with political extremism are not something I can easily dismiss as harmless fun, because members of my own family were among the millions murdered by a tyrannical regime of political extremists.
You are of course perfectly entitled to keep the avatar. I just wanted you to understand why, from my perspective, it isn’t quite the innocent bit of AI fun that it may appear to you.
Same with a balaclava: you associate it with extremism; in this context it's simply part of a ridiculous AI “charva” character i see in youtube videos. I respect your interpretation, but an association isn't automatically the intention or meaning of the person using the image. BTW, Im 50 y.o. Retired IT guy.. do lots of traveling. Leeds fan since 92... Not some punk from Shipley council flats. Thats actually my face with ai balaklava.

We were very good in the first half and to be fair should have been two or three up at half-time when it would have been likely that we would have won. Yet again poor finishing cost us coupled with the Billy Smarts Circus defending in the second half.
I must also congratulate our recruitment team on managing to find a 'keeper worse than those we have recently disposed of.

Conceding 6 goals in 45 minutes in any game against any opponent is a concern for me .I hope we get a win on Monday to restore my optimism for the season ahead

A worry considering all the big money was spent on defenceTom the Cat wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2026 8:31 am We were very good in the first half and to be fair should have been two or three up at half-time when it would have been likely that we would have won. I feel for a lot of my pals who were amongst the 4.000 travelling Leeds fans.
People who arrange their holiday days-off around Leeds United.
Fans who wouldn't arrive home until 3am to 4am after a very long day.
I was offered a ticket, I'm glad I refused it.

They'd scored 3 goals before he reacted, 4 before he made a change at all.

Only making substitutions around the 67th minute mark is ridiculous & in last night's case pointless!
He may as well rested all them for the full game, accepting a possible embarrassing 9-2 defeat as opposed to 6-3, the scoreline was immaterial in the end, we still got battered.

They may have deserved this (Nmecha really struggled at times).
But how do you never read about him getting angry with BA losing the ball every 5 seconds
Or Longstaff tracking nobody
Mind boggles

So just to be clear - you previously did not like ploddy- ball and how we were poor at progressing the ball. We now have more of a front foot approach and bar last nights game we have not conceded many- I think we are ranked 2nd for goals conceded so far in the prem. What represents tactical Utopia for you - you do come across as having a desire or personal mandate to pick holes in whatever tactics Farke employs.Cjay wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2026 10:57 pm Gonna push back here or I get the "danny bashing" stuff.
I mentioned on pre season I didn't like how we'd set up with Amps pushing forward and a massive gap between midfield and defence.
It's been noticeable in every game.
Maybe not a deciding factor in this game but it doesn't work imo and we are noticeably far easier to get at than we were last season.
We'd have conceded far more without Trafford and Muha already
Let’s see where we are after 10 to 15 games, which represents a bigger sample size before jumping to conclusions. There is only supposed to be one 3 Eyed Raven.

My rant wasn’t aimed at you mate.Orange Box wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2026 3:53 am Not at all sure what you are getting at. As I have just explained in the post above to the poster I was commenting on, I was pointing out that Ampadu has a creative edge to his game, and that to call him a ‘pure destroyer’ is doing him a disservice.
I never mentioned the loss had anything to do with Ampadu, I thought he was excellent.
Also your second paragraph confuses me, I don’t see what relation it has to do with my post. If you are implying my posts are drivel, it’s a comment that’s been made before so there must be something in it. Block away, knock yourself out. BTW this is an online forum, couch managers is exactly what you are going to get.

Nmecha cannot play the isolated target man role under the high ball with his back to goal. That dude falls over in virtually every challenge. He is better when facing towards the opposition goal.

Couldn't stand ploddyball, mind numbingly dull watch most of the timeDDB220 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2026 10:27 am So just to be clear - you previously did not like ploddy- ball and how we were poor at progressing the ball. I prefer a more direct, vertical approach.
I'm not complaining about that.
What I'm saying is off the ball we've changed from last season.
We push the entire midfield really high, and teams get through it more often than not at will because the gaps are so large.
The defence stays back, is a chasm between them
It wasn't like that last season.
I don't know why? Maybe it's DF trying to cling on to some of his identity.
But I think it will cost us more often than not (for every time it works like Amps brilliant assist yesterday I think we will give away 2 maybe 3 decent chances partly because of it)
If your goalie or cb is constantly man of the match you have a problem.
That's it really.

Someone called him the best most uncoordinated football ever.
Pretty accurate
I like him, he can go from looking like prime Zlatan to prime Billy Paynter in the same match.
Was dreadful at times yesterday but then some lovely moments and lay offs and the touch for the goal was elite class.
Strange player.

They scored 3 in 7 mins, hardly enough time to do much so in that case he should have reacted @HT or when we scored a second ?
Both would have been crazy
.When ?
Subs made sweet FA difference anyway.

Break the game up, even the commentators said as much
7 minutes is enough time to do something, we could all see what was happening.
Could have reacted after the 2nd, or even the 3rd immediately but he was still chatting to the subs 5 minutes after when the 4th went in.
Subs did make a difference but by that time was too late Chelsea had momentum and we were chasing and wide open.

I’m 61 a Leeds fan since 72 and I have no balaclava. In fact, I am always myself. Just in case you think I’m maybe singling you out, Im not. I don’t like avatars either. I’m sure you’re as decent as anyone in here. You seem very articulate. Pozzo is the master of repetition. Pozzo is Italian and could refer to a PIT and it is phonetically similar to puzzo which is a STENCH.
Pozzo has a slave Lucky who he drags around with a rope and tells when to walk and stop, and when to think.
Lucky is the obedient one. MOT has it's very own Pozzo and he drags around multi dudes of Luckys who search endlessly for meaning and hope... only to be fed a cold dish of meaningless repetition.
