McAllister....remember Histon oh & Andy bl**dy Robinson
Under Grayson we should have been at least challenging Norwich for the L1 title with the players we had in that team such as Ankergren, Naylor, Kisnorbo, Snoddy, Johnson, Howson, Gradel, Beckford, Becchio, etc but in the end we only just scraped automatic promotion. Larry didn't do well at Huddersfield & is doing okay-ish at Preston.
I doubt many on here were at the Swindon, Hereford, Exeter, plus many other games where we put in some woeful performances although every Leeds fan will remember the Scum game !
SG wasn't a failed manager - 1 of only 4 managers to achieve something at Leeds. The board failed him constantly selling any player (or allowing them to leave for free) as soon as they attracted interest. SG had to constantly try to reinvent the team after losing key player after key player and not being given adequate funds to replace them. Don't lump him in with McAllister cos McAllister failed miserably and his team was in complete freefall when SG came in and turned it around.
Under SG we were competing with Norwich, a side which history has proved was certainly the best, by some distance, side in the division that season. Norwich were a side that were able to keep all their best players and as such their league 1 players were largely good enough for lower end premiership. Our good players were sold.
'Larry didn't do well at Huddersfield' - he got them promoted something they failed to do under Clark despite going something like a year unbeaten. Yes it may have only been via the play=offs but that in itself is a plus as he has constantly shown the ability to motivate a team for big games.
Hereford defeat was very early in his reign and was a watershed moment - the team went on a very good run after that. Yes the Swindon game was poor but they were a team bang in form while we had a lot of demons at the time. Once again though SG managed to rally the team and after looking unlikely to make promotion he got the team firing again, taking bold decisions like dropping Beckford, who's head seemed to be all over the place, but then making him captain against Bristol Rovers. Other inspired decisions such as signing Gradel after Gradel had been sent off v Bristol Rovers - I doubt a single Leeds fan would have signed him after that.
'Larry is doing okayish at Preston' - unbeaten in the leage this season and have conceded only 3 league goals. Reached the play-offs last year. Crikey 64 you set very high standards.
