Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Brighton are shite and there manager is clueless.
They're near the drop for a reason.
We struggled against them and Burnley at home as at the time our pitch was horrendous.
We also had players missing.
Shame Raphinha is out, and I don't see Rodders being risked, but we still have more than enough to roast this lot.
Fulham, Blunts and Baggies have been so bad that they've saved Brighton getting relegated.

Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread
When we lost to Brighton, we had Struijk playing in Philips’ position as he was suspended - possibly his weakest position in the defence. Ayling and Cooper were our CB pairing, Dallas was at right back and Klich and Rodrigo were in CM.
To say we’ll have a different team out tomorrow, even without Raphinha, would be an understatement. Also, our pitch was brutal and we were on a bad run of form, having been well beaten by Spurs, as well as being beaten by Crawley Town.
They are still the type of team we struggle to break down. They are good defensively and quick on the counter so we will need to show our fitness here for the 95 minutes. Having said that, our defence has improved hugely and they struggle to score anyway, so if we score one they will have a huge challenge to get back at us without emptying their defence to support the attack. That will give us more opportunities to counter ourselves. They may be nervous too, if we take a lead, as they still can be pulled into relegation trouble if Fulham actually manage to win a game really soon.
I think we’ll win but I expect it to be tight.

Agree Lumi, clubs should have the right to an appeal & the matter reviewed.Lumiukko wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 4:52 pm I agree. I may be wrong but I think I heard there is a loophole in the system is that because Fernandinho got a yellow, and VAR deemed it fair (more like didn't check it), that the matter is seen as dealt with on the field and "we all move on". There really should be scope for retroactive views by a panel in situations like that (and for Wan Bissaka's suplex on Costa). I can understand why they would not bring in this process as it would mean teams making claims and then there'd be counter appeals and we'd be going on and on. But that tackle by Fernandinho was outrageously bad. Going to be some awkward moments should they both be called up to the Brazil National Team anytime soon.
Cooper has missed three games for a genuine & less dangerous challenge actually winning the ball
Fernandinho made no attempt to play the ball taking out Raphinha with a crude challenge whom has also missed three games as a consequence.
Meanwhile the real culprit in all this has got away with blue murder

And Fernandinho has a lot of previous for this kind of play. He gets away with it week after week.1964white wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 11:46 am Agree Lumi, clubs should have the right to an appeal & the matter reviewed.

Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread
I really don't know how this game is going to go. On paper we should have more than enough to win this, but Brighton are strong defensively, and pose a risk on set pieces with that mountain Dunk winning and scoring more than his fair share of attacking corners. Possibility that Lallana is out, which I am pleased about as he is the type of player who could cause us issues. Without Rapha we may be a little blunt going forward, but wee Ian might be a wildcard as the Brighton players won't have seen much of him and he has the ability to run rings around their somewhat slow CBs.
Think I went for 1-2 and I'll stick by that prediction. No doubt Dunk will score one, and we will make their keeper Sanchez look like a worldie like we do to most keepers with our usual profligacy.
Likely lineup:
Meslier
Ayling Llorente Struijk Alioski
KP
Dallas Roberts
Poveda Harrison
Bamford
In game subs used:
Rodrigo
Klich
Koch
Remaining bench:
Casilla
Berardi
Shackleton
Hernandez
Summerville
Greenwood

Good article for those who are interested in xg and the like. It suggests that with a good striker they would be top six. Dunno about that but they play nice football and will cause us problems.
Disagree with those who write off Parker and his team, their guys exceuted their plan perfectly last time against us, scoring a great goal on that ploughed field of a pitch. He is a good manager.
They are overdue a comprehensive win at home.
Our guys will have to be at their best tomorow.

The referee for our trip to Brighton on Saturday is Manchester born ref, Chris Kavanagh. The last time he reffed us was our 1-3 away win at Leicester in Jan. Before that was our 0-1 away win v Everton & 4-1 loss to Crystal Palace. VAR will Be Jarred Gillett.

Yes anything can happen tommorrow...but I am feeling confident ...when you see sentences like this in sports reporting, how can you not be... Just how far have we come under Bielsa...
.
.
During Leeds’ six-game unbeaten run they have drawn against Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United and beaten Manchester City.

Re: Brighton v Leeds Utd Match Thread
On paper, comparing our respective league positions, you would expect us to get at least a draw here, unfortunately football isn’t played on paper and things are never that straight forward. I do think that Brighton are a better team than their league position suggests so it’s going to be another tough game. I still think we can win this though - come on Leeds!
