Calamity Cooper poked the ball away from Kiko as he (keeper) raced out to sweep the ball to safety.
Cooper needs a cool head to play alongside with ie, Kyle Bartley and then Ben White. Without this calming partnership at the back Coops is prone to dropping some right clangers in defence. With Ben White martialing things at the back Coops played his part in winning LUFC the Championship title the year after the Derby calamity.
Cooper was guided by Ben White ???? Honestly what alternative universe were you watching the title winning games from.
Cooper makes mistakes as do all defenders. His leadership played a massive part in our promotion.

Need forshaw back in for me. Koch is not a DM and I don’t really see where he fits in to this team at the moment.
For all the talk of lampard and the fans having turned a corner they are still way down the league , we get the first goal and they will start to get frustrated. We have poor history against teams in a poor run though so I’d be wary of whether or not we turn up for this.
Koch is really not suited to that midfield role, that's abundantly clear. He's not mobile or quick enough to play there. At the end of the day he's a traditional centre back, and prone to the occasional errors. We really need to shore up the midfield area, against Villa they were constantly running through us. This has been a consistent theme all season.

Point today will be a good result.
Agreed, and he might be our best defender this season when he’s played, he at least knows how to get in a block and probably the best tackler too...

Incidentally that Derby goal was more Kilo’s fault. For those in the know - his communication and ability to command his area is not great.
No it was Coopers, not sure that Cadillac could have been clearer. The clearing kick about to be delivered when Coop took it off him facing his own goal with a rushing keeper who had no way of stopping

I would prefer Koch as the right footed CB- I'm not a massive fan of Llorente, as I think he has lapses in terms of his blocking etc. He's made quite a few mistakes this season.
For me it should be Struijk as the left footed CB and Koch the right footed one.
There's an episode of the official Leeds podcast, the one with Emma jones, Beckford and Neville from Harry Potter where Jack Harrsion is a guest. He speaks a lot about Lampard, all positive stuff, says how he texts him regularly and how much of a difference he made to his career when they both played for new York.
Made me think of lampard differently.
Then I realised I still don't like him and want any team he is involved with to fail.
On another point, Harrison talks a lot about how he is a confidence player and does better when he doesn't have time to think, if he does things instinctively
It's a little bit worrying that Everton have had a week since their last game and we played our hearts out on Wednesday as usual. Even Villa don't play until tomorrow. I hope Wednesday doesn't catch up with us by the second half. We've seen this before. I think it would be massive to win this game. It would give us much needed breathing space and as a bonus put more pressure on fat frank (he doesn't deserve capitals!). Win win. Hopefully. God I hope Raph turns up today.

I think Cooper did have moments where pressure got to him, the game against Sheff U and the play off match being 2 examples. However I think he has matured and for me it was Cooper's presence that enable White to play so well. It is often the way that a more experienced defender reads the game better so is able to react far quicker when the younger defendere makes an error, as such the errors made by the younger defender go unpunished. When the roles are reversed though and the older defender makes the error the younger defender hasn't anticipated that and as such the error has a much higher chance of leading to a goal or a dangerous shot. As such fans remember the older player making mistakes that lead to goals and don't remember the younger player making errors leading to goals.

Everton lost on Tuesday and played like they were saving themselves for today’s game.
Lampard’s cup final etc etc

True, I stand corrected.
The fact remains that the lack of faith that existed in the defence around Casilla’s ability contributed to Cooper’s indecision and error. The difference that Meslier has made to our team, and the confidence that the team have in him, is often now taken for granted.
Two totally different styles of keeper. Kiko was a sweeper keeper and as such was often off his line and clearing the danger before it became dangerous. Messlier is very much a 6 yard line keeper with his starting position far closer to the goal line. I do think Kiko's role allowed us to be a better attacking side as we didn't need to defend so deep. If you look at the Villa game I wonder if Coutinho's throughball to Ramsey (for their second goal) would have been played as Kiko may well have been able to clear the danger or certainly meant it was a harder pass to play.
As a defender I'd probably prefer to play with Kiko behind me than Messlier - and that is not me saying Kiko is better than Messlier just that it allows you to set your offside line a lot higher and not have to worry as much about certain types of throughballs. Sure you might get the odd error but it also eliminates a lot of potential attacks and forces the opposition to play in a different way with less options.

Don’t have a problem with the personnel starting today especially given Wednesdays performance but a bit surprised there are no changes given the gruelling nature of the villa game, thought forshaw would come back in and maybe roberts(not that I would want that). I just hope we can string 2 good performances together
So Everton have went for a 4-4-2 which is the best setup to disrupt our rhythm.
Koch will have to drop deeper to make up the three and Van Der Beek will have the freedom of Goodison park today.
Marsch OUT
Football has undergone a process of bielsification; pressing and possessing, passing rather than dribbling, intercepting high up the field rather than making last-ditch tackles, are in vogue.
