This one was entirely down to Bielsa. There was no squad management after such a draining game midweek. We go into a game where the home team are like a drowning man grasping for anything positive that will keep their own support off their backs.

Instead of controlling the ball and the game for twenty minutes and waiting for the inevitable mistake that Everton would make in their angst, we run around like children charging around the school yard. We try ridiculously high risk passes from distance and just constantly give them the ball and a reason to their support to get behind them. It was laughably naive. Aside from Rodrigo’s two shots off the crossbar, there were no positives in that half.

How could you not start Forshaw knowing you would face an onslaught in the first half. Leaving Dallas at left back was inviting trouble and further weakening the midfield. Hjelde was the option here as he was V West Ham.

To see Roberts coming on at halftime must have been such a fillip to the Everton team, and so depressing to the rest of the Leeds subs and the vast majority of the Leeds support. We needed two goals at a minimum and Bielsa brought on a player who has such a poor scoring record that there was essentially no threat to Everton on the scoreboard. How can he attempt to justify putting him on in future. Summerville, Gelhardt or a less than interested Raphinha were all more likely to do damage than Roberts.

Van de Beek will also have enjoyed answering Bielsa’s assertion that he wasn’t good enough for us. He ran us ragged. It was embarrassing from start to finish today.

Let’s see now whether we can retrieve a deteriorating situby getting 3 points from the Liverpool or Man U games. That’s what we now need to maintain a one point average and steer clear of the relegation swamp, but we look knackered and very short of ideas.

I did say Lampard would have them revved up for his cup final. Not conceding in the opening 20 mins was imperative, but we were 2-0 down and the games was gone.
