Kinhell, you've to tread on eggshells around here  You play what we call rounders and have a 'World series' without any other country so you always win (like Miss and Mr Universe, why they always from Earth) and we play (and countries from the 4 corners) Cricket!
The best baseball players from all over the world play in the USA. Unlike football, there is only one league that attracts the best players. As of the end of last season there were players from twenty-one countries playing in the US. We could have a World Series that included the champions of Japanese, Korean, Mexican, Cuban leagues, etc., but what would be the point? The same could be said of basketball. The NBA champions are considered world champions even though there are professional leagues all over the world and for an equally obvious reason.

That's not to say the best players don't come from other nations. I would gladly take a team of the nine best Dominicans against the Americans, but those nine Dominicans all play in the US major leagues.

You can have cricket. I find it boring and mostly devoid of the strategy involved in a game of baseball. And please, spare me the lecture about my supposed ignorance. I understand the game - in all its forms - quite well.

Ahh you did it for me... Baseball is a truly wonderful sport...

...As for cricket, as an ex player of the game there's a lot of strategy involved and a massive level of skill. I'm not trying to sell it but the 5 day game is as close to perfect as a sport as is possible (or it was until we had to dumb it down).

I can't stand hockey (I use the proper term there I think, we add the word ice here but I was told off by Brit living in Canada for using "ice") Looks an awful game impossible to follow but I bet it's fans would denounce that as completely wrong. Basketball is another I'm not fond of, now that does look a game devoid of strategy, left to right , then back right to left, nine times out of ten the ball ending up in the net.. Really tall blokes scoring a lot of "goals" at will..

But I bet I'm wrong ...

I spend a couple of hours a day on football sites and forums. Distinguishing the footballs is sometimes difficult

Kalvin Phillips is one of the best footballers in the world
Maxx Crosby is one of the best footballers in the world

huh .....

I known mine is a minority opinion regarding cricket. Immensely popular in many more places in the world than baseball. I have no issues with those who prefer it to baseball.

I imagine it's much like baseball in that you really have to play it in order to truly appreciate the strategy and skill involved.

Cricket world cup is always amusing ... maybe AUS/SA/WI/ENG/IND/PAK/SLA/NZ capable of winning it which is around 4% of the world ...

I prefer the one team European cup, all gone daft now, all about the brass, or greed, fancy finishing 4th in your respective league and being crowned champions of europe , isn't that called 'false advertising' ?

1. I don't want to pap on, but, 'devoid of strategy' speaks volumes about your supposed ignorance, and it should end here.
2. No you don't.

NB

You tell that to a bowler or indeed the batsmen, when the bowler is hurtling down a ball towards your throat/head/arms/all your body, at over 90mph in which you have about a second to react to an inswinger, outswinger, daisy cutter, Googly, head taker off forer :roflmao:

Most/in fact all Yanks i've spoke to about cricket consider it to be boring and then rant about baseball as if it's comparable, thus showing their complete and utter ignorance of the game.

Just to keep our longest matchday thread going, I'll pop this enjoyable chatshow on here.

Well worth a watch, Kagey & my favourite Browny (once on Leeds United's books) discussing the

Norwich/Wolves games
Wolves team/Jiminez incident
Wolves defending
The welcomed antics & togetherness of Jesse's Leeds.
How our mentality has changed under Jesse
Rodrigo/Klich/Forshaw, etc
Relegation & more.

David Brown makes a great point about Jiminez's sending off

Baseball pitches can approach the batter at anywhere from 80 mph up to over 100 mph. Pitchers change the speed, the rotation, and the angle of entry of every pitch. The bat is smaller than a cricket bat and round, not flat. Hitting a baseball is simply the single most difficult thing to do in sports; the greatest hitters of all time fail over two out of every three times at bat. The strike zone in baseball is larger than the target in cricket, meaning hitters have to be able to cover a larger area or be called out.

I'm not saying cricket isn't difficult, nor am I saying it's devoid of strategy. I'm merely saying baseball has more of both.

As I said in a previous post, this opinion of mine is based on having played a great deal of baseball over the years and only having watched cricket. I imagine I would have a greater appreciation for both the difficulty and strategy involved in the game had I actually played it, as I imagine you would, too, if you tried playing baseball.

Here are some examples of great pitchers and the variety of pitches they can throw. Imagine trying to hit any of these if you don't know which one is coming, especially when a pitcher can make the ball move different ways on even the same pitch. Believe me, if a pitcher throws you a curve immediately after buzzing you under the chin with a 95-mph fastball, it will buckle your knees in a real hurry.

And just for fun, this is what could happen to you if you get hit with one of these pitches:

You REALLY want to watch this.

Except for Liggy. Probably best if you don't look, Liggy.

Is this a baseball v cricket thread now :)
Hitting a Shane Warne googly is way harder than hitting a baseball. Ask Gatting, he could of had 10 attempts and still missed it.

Browny's comment on the Jiminez/Meslier clash

The Wolves fans are a bunch of hypocrites because they were chanting OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF towards Meslier. When they realised Meslier was the first to the ball, they were adamant it wasn't a yellow card offence, even though Jiminez had taken our keeper out of the game totally with the challenge.

Have you seen elite baseball in person Kenny? Also Elite American football.
I have and they just don't compare to our "versions". But then that's a cultural thing and it's why the comparison between skill levels etc between the sports is futile. Get that man at a T20 with Livingstone smashing one out of the ground, now that is exciting.

Can't agree with that John... to start with a cricket ball interacts with the ground which add a whole new dimension. Imagine a curve ball leaving the hitter suddenly changing direction mid stream.
This moves 2-2.5 feet in the space of a maybe three yards

I'm not critical of baseball, I've been a big Indians/Guardians fan for a few years. But Cricket is every bit as good..
