Marsch will understandably enough stick with the players who have served him well over the last half-dozen matches.

Actually, my friend, the plan of action I described is essentially the one Bielsa used in the ten-man game. Absorbed a lot of pressure and then had a moment of brilliance (although it was from Dallas and not from Raphinha). Even down to ten men Bielsa did not try and park the bus.Kennyb41 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 12:03 pm Ahhh is that right John, here is our team and theirs for a 1-1 result under Bert on 3rd October 2020

Bamford

Rodri KDB Foden
Sterling Torres Mahrez
At Elland Road
Your post has just been smashed to fcking pieces champ. And there's another incoming.
You have some excellent points to make. Why can't you make them without being insulting or superior?

Of course I could come up with the perfect tactics and team selection. After all as they will never be actually put into practice I can keep claiming that they'd be successful.

Re: Leeds Utd v Manchester City Match Thread
No offence intended to you Cjay as I like your posts and the fact you give reasons for your opinions as well as actually doing lots of research to support your opinions. I will always respect someone who does that regardless of whether I share their opinion.
As regards us v City last year and in the first draw we had to soak up a lot of pressure early on, rode our luck and then matched City. I think we grew in belief after giving them too much respect. The 2nd match we were giving a good acocunt of ourselves and if memory serves were leading when Cooper was sent off, extremely harshly. Any team in that situation needs to be pragmatic and we were. We still though carried a threat and that is key as it meant City couldn't simply swarm all over us. I seem to think we had a couple of other chances too as well as Rpahinha being wiped out when cleaned through.
This season and the big difference was how early City scored (8 minutes in). After that it meant that they could press extremely high and the pressure on them was gone. They didn't need to over commit but could play the way they wanted. Combined with the players we had missing and we simply couldn't get into City's half. We tried to play out from the back but were unable to due in the main to the players we had missing. The other option was to launch it long but we were missing our two players who are best at pinging accurate long balls from the back, namely Cooper and Phillips. We were also without Bamford lacking someone who would have been able to make use of long balls. So really there was little to no way of actually playing against City given who we had available.
It is all very well for people to say we should have parked the bus but you can't simply try to defend for 90 minutes, you need an outlet, you need someone to be able to hold the ball up and relieve a bit of pressure. Also it simply doesn't work as soon as the first goal goes in as then the opposition don't need to worry about trying to force a second.
With the players we had you could play that match 100 times and I reckon in 90 we'd concede at least 5 no matter what tactics were employed. The other 10 we'd be relying on City missing chances, getting frustrated, amazing defending and keeping etc.

Where are all the cowards with their pre match discussion about what team they want to see and what we should do ?
it's deafening in here, you've got a full squad to choose from bar PB and a load of your younguns you could throw in anyway ???
WHERE ARE YOU ALL ?? WHAT WE GONNA DO EXPERTS ?? CATCH THEM ON THE BREAK ?? FORM A CIRCLE OF WAGONS ??
It's Zulu time. Can we win ? Can we get a draw ? How ? What's he gonna do with versatile Stuey ?? 3 at the back ? 2 up front ?? what's the craic ?? Subs ? Throw Cresswell in at the deepend ? Start Joffy n terrify em to death ?? Sam No.10 ??
No Costa, No TR, No Forshaw, No Summerville - how the hell we gonna replace these ?

If that's the lineup you're forced to field vs. Man City you're sort of obligated to change your tactics. You may say there's no difference between losing 1-0 and losing 7-0, but as things stand right now our GD means our lead over Everton is only four and a half points. If we end up being relegated on goal differential the insistence that we play Bielsaball when completely outmanned will haunt us for years.
Believe me, I am second to no one in my admiration for Bielsa both as a coach and as a man. I love watching Bielsaball. However, it requires quality players and lots of time to implement. I would love to see Bielsa get his hands on a roster like Pep's. It would be brilliant. Asking our team, while missing Cooper, Kalvin, and Bamford, to play Bielsaball vs City, though, was begging for the beating we received. I fully expect Marsch will not press high or try to play attacking football on Saturday, not because he's incapable of coaching that way, but because doing so won't provide our side with its best opportunity to earn a result.

Just read the additions since I posted this morning and Kenny’s challenge. I do not normally enter into a battle of wits with people who are unarmed but I am an eternal moth to the flame when a challenge is presented, regardless of the antagonist.
Kenny you are providing stats from last season ? What is the point ?????? It is the here and now that matters. Few supporters will argue that last season’s Bielsa’s Leeds punched above their weight and got amazing results etc etc.
The reality is that for whatever reason that team failed to show up this season and we only saw glimmers of that swagger and confidence. I have no doubt, as I mentioned it a few times during this season, continually defending Bielsa that injuries played a part in our form this season. But that was not the only reason for our massive dip. There are other aggravating factors which I won’t go into as we have bored each other to death on the topic.
If you believe that a Bielsa Leeds would have performed as well as Marsch has done in terms of picking up points then that is a marvellous - there are others who agree with you. It is more romanticism rather than fact in my opinion as we will never know.
There is just absolutely no comparison to be made with Leeds of last season. Marsch does what he does, he is the manager. His job is to avoid relegation not dazzle us with intricate interplay and taking Guardiola to the tactical cleaners.

It is just the bizarre logic that you think with the team we had we could simply go into some amazing defensvie formation and we'd only lose 1-0. Like I said in my post earlier that with the team we had I reckon no matter what way we played we'd have got battered 90 times in 100. So change the way the team played in that match and at best we'd probably still lose by 3 or 4 goals to nil, likely we'd have still got beaten big though.John in Louisiana wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 3:43 pm That was the problem, wasn't it.

Oh ffs DDB, it didn't matter, for crying out loud with what we had left we were never gonna shut up shop, there were way too many things against us, that what bugs us, we point out he used the same and worse players last season and you just come up with the same old same old, you take a couple of pins from our bridge and it might just hold up, take too many and the whole thing collapses, he was doing ALL on a budget, he over stretched himself no doubt, he fcked some things up, he himself was learning about the quality of the Prem, he would've survived this year and probably thought 'phew that was too close for comfort' and i'm sure he had the intelligence to learn, he might've sacked Orta for finding trash who knows, he went too fast for his own good and came unstuck when everything started to go wrong, but to sack the guy for some high scorelines for which there were a million reasons after all the hardwork was beyond me, so now we're back to square one i feel but in the Prem thanks to him.DDB220 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 3:52 pm Just read the additions since I posted this morning and Kenny’s challenge.
