Nah don't agree, A very slight alteration in position is not an argument we didn't replace Pablo (Pablo really not that good as the 10, much happier on the right) What they are are very skillful, right sided creative footballers who score from outside the box and set up others. The rest is semantics used to back up the agenda we never replaced Pablo... We did1964white wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 8:05 am Raphinha is an out & out winger.
Pablo was a right-sided footballer, but he played across the midfield often playing centrally, the majority of his goals came from the centre of the pitch, not one current Leeds player scores goals with regularity from outside the box.
Harrison & Costa were our wingers.

Pablo could play through the middle, so can Raph, Raph better on the left but both can/could switch out there. Both very good coming in from the right.. Raph is quicker, can win with both skill, pace and the pass. I could argue not only did we replace Pablo, we improved on him. Not forgetting Pablo was aging and Raph did it for us in a better league
Now who's wearing rose tinted specs.. Love Pablo, legend for us but we did replace him ...

Raphinha our best player by a country mile, unfortunately no one near his level, he'll be sick as a pig leaving Leeds when he knows he had so much more to offer our club in the future.faaip wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 10:01 am Pablo could play through the middle, so can Raph, Raph better on the left but both can/could switch out there. Raph was always likely to leave, we put him the shop window. We cannot compete with Europe's elite or outrageous salaries
I'm still not sure about Kalvin but I don't think he's a fit for Marsch's system anyway. Might be best to move on even if we stay up... We'll see..

How do you know he isn't coming back ?DDB220 wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 8:46 am Honestly mate you are the proverbial stuck record. You keep going on about people who know about football. All you every spout about is how Bert would have done this or that. You live in a fantasy world. He went nearly 3 months ago, he isn’t coming back and frothing at the mouth about what could or could not have been is truly pointless.
We are in dire trouble because of a multitude of occurrences, incompetence, poor decision making and a sprinkling of bad luck. No one element is entirely to blame all of the cast have played a part, and Bert was one of the headline acts.
We are still in with a shout today, it is more of a whimper in truth but this game still has the ability to create bizarre outcomes.
If we go down I hope Marsch can prove me wrong but he sounds too corporate and I am not convinced that sounding like a banker resonates with footballers. But we will see.
Russell Crowe would bring him back in a heartbeat, sensible new owners with a footballing brain and vision could bring him back, i know if i had enough money to buy Leeds it would be my first priority, so if there's people out there that saw what i and others saw and they're looking thinking ' that guy Radz has fcked up there, he's now desperate to sell and i know how to fix this because he's already proved it'....it's just common sense you see, you either have it or you don't.

Despite the form and decent season Brentford have had we should remember that they are far from unbeatable.
They have only lost 1 less game than us (17 to our 18).
The main difference between the sides is simply that they have been able to change draws in to wins.
So Everton, Burnley, Brighton and Palace, all 4 games we could easily have won but didnt, fine margins.
They are not Man City (mean that with no disrespect they have had a decent season) but they are absolutely beatable.

I would be expecting to win if we did not have so many players out injured. I think we are just lightweight in midfield, we find it difficult to sustain any level of pressure away from home because Klich, Harrison and Rodrigo give the ball away far too often, and that leaves us agape for the counter. The key with just about every game under Marsch is to not concede early and score first. Then we are in a position to counter when they commit numbers.Cjay wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 1:37 pm Despite the form and decent season Brentford have had we should remember that they are far from unbeatable.

we can't afford the type of sloppy
and lethargic starts that we've shown in most matches under marsch against brentford. not sure why we had to wait until half time before we showed any fight or urgency against Brighton and still unclear what goes on the training ground during the week as there is still no clear pattern to our play. whilst I so hope we stay up I have felt we were doomed for weeks. not convinced marsch is the manager to get us back up or the club management to invest in the right players either. if we should stay up it will be a real struggle next year. so much hope at the start of the season back in the stadium. how things have changed

Hmm....He sounds too corporate which probably means he sounds too intelligent to relate to the average footballer. Could be true. There aren't many people in English Football with an Ivy League education....

There aren't many Ivy League educated that have played, managed, scouted, trained or worked in any capacity in English Premier League football, in fact before you just pointed big Jesse out i didn't know of anyone, are there others ?
And how does this help them in the toughest football league in the world if you have been educated there in America ?

Praying
we can stay up today guys
Don't think everyone is against us, I've talked to loads of supporters from different clubs and all wished us the best.
I talked to a proper gent yesterday whose in his 80s and a West Ham season ticket holder, a nicer fella you won't meet. He said he's always loved Leeds and sincerely hopes we do enough to stay up today.
Heard the same from Liverpool, Rangers, Forest and a host of other clubs fans.
Come on Jesse and the lads get a win and hope Newcastle wallop Burnley

I really hope Jesse let’s the players off the leash and they go for it today - we are not Burnley we don’t excel at wearing teams down by sitting back if we are to win we need to be at them from the first whistle - still keep envisioning them scoring within about 5 minutes and us going down 3 nil but I’m prepared to be surprised.

Fella, this has nothing to do with his intelligence or nationality, as you appear to want to champion him, no doubt due to a certain level of patriotism, which I get. Football in the UK is generally the preserve of the working class. Times have changed and there is a wider audience and input. But most kids who play the game and make it through the ranks are from that traditional setting.BlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 3:57 am Hmm....He sounds too corporate which probably means he sounds too intelligent to relate to the average footballer. Marsch speaks well but he reminds me of a CEO in the private sector. For me it can be a bit toe curling at times as he naively falls into the journalistic trap of allowing himself to reveal his inner thoughts. The motivational quotes and marking homework references do not, in my opinion resonate with most fans and I suspect a lot of the players - despite his suggestion that they do.
He needs to be successful and quick. Following Bielsa is a hard enough task, add to that his perceived footballing heritage, lack of managerial experience in the UK and his unconventional sound bites and it will only take a few bad results next season. Wherever we are for the crowd to turn.
Personally, toe curling moments aside - I quite like his honest approach but it is all about results and if we stay up he will have some credit, if we go down he will need to be in the mix from the off.

Re: Brentford v Leeds Utd Match Thread
Well D-day has arrived!
It’s been a dreadful season and I won’t be sorry to see the back of it but it would wonderful if we could manage to end on a high. There is often a surprising turn of events on the last day of the season where the favourites to go down (us in this case) manage to rescue themselves and consign another team to the drop instead. However, the pessimism, ingrained in me over the last 55+ years of supporting this football club, tells me that that probably won’t happen and that the likely outcome will be an uneventful damp squib of an ending. Brentford will be 2 up by half time and we’ll never look like getting back into the game making the outcome of the Burnley game totally irrelevant.
We’ve had precious little to be cheerful about so far this season, so come on lads show some fighting spirit and give us something to get excited about in the final game!
Come on Leeds!

Re: Brentford v Leeds Utd Match Thread
It's all just a case of who deserves to go down more now.
In hindsight we have been candidates for relegation for most of the season. The crazy amount of goals conceded, the amount of indiscipline shown in card numbers, the lack of signings and the amount of injuries we've had relative to the squad size, were all alarm bells warning us of a club that was not in control of it's destiny. Sacking Bielsa when we did showed more ineptitude and bringing Marsch into the chaos as firefighter may be the clubs crowning glory.
All the above, and the obvious position we sit in the table today mean we deserve to go down. Our sliver of hope is that by 6pm fate may decide that Burnley, having been atrocious for the vast majority of the season, may actually slightly deserve it more.
Either way, we are not in a good position for whatever comes next and that worries me as much as the outcome of today's games. Radrizani and Co must be thanked for what they did well a number of years back but they're now way out of their depth. Time to go whatever happens today.

Apparently at this stage in the season there are some uncanny parallels with the 2003/4 relegation season ;
We have 8 wins - the same number after 37 games as in 2004.
We have scored 40 goals - the same number after 37 games as in 2004.
We have conceded 78 goals - the same number after 37 games as in 2004.
We have 2 more points at this stage compared to 2004, and have lost 18 games compared to 20 at the same point in 2004. We had 33 points going in to the last game in 2004.
We conceded 79 goals by the end of the 2003/4 season - we have not conceded 80 or more since the 1960/1 season just before Revie arrived...

We have scored in the first half in just 3 of our last 15 league games....That's why if we concede early we are usually dead.DDB220 wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 1:59 pm I would be expecting to win if we did not have so many players out injured.
