Our players love Jesse, which is the most important aspect of his management, even though a section of our fans are not keen on him.
I'm struggling to understand why he is so disliked, maybe I'm reading the signs wrongly.
I love his passion & the way he celebrates like us football fans do at games.
It isn't a case of him being disliked it is a case of whether he is up to the job and that is what we will find out. There are some things I like about him, some things not so much but the only thing that ultimately matters is what happens on the pitch. Under Bielsa we played in a way that got more out of the team than the sum of its parts which gave me hope that we could punch above our weight considering we can't match the resources of a lot of clubs. That we could by playing as a team and playing with our way be better than a team simply making up numbers. This season has been poor but the reasons were clearly more than just the manager - given less injuries we comfortably survive and learn lessons.
So back to Marsch and does he have the ability to make us be able to bridge the gap? Or will we just become a team who's ultimate aim every season is just to stay up? That's the question for me and it doesn't come down to him being American or any of the other nonsense - it is can he take us to another level? Bielsa I always felt could - again this season was a nightmare - but there were important lessons to be learnt accross the club and certainly areas to strengthen but then we would go again.
It is very much an unknown with JM at this point. Similar in a way to MU taking a gamble of Ten Haag who is only proven at 1 club who is usually a contender for the title in their own country. JM has a managerial record that is hard to really judge, decent in Austria where it was the equivalent of being the manager of Celtic when Rangers weren't in the same division, or PSG in France etc. His time managing in the USA is very hard to judge. His time in Germany a major concern. Has he learnt from what went wrong? Did his team in Austria do better with him than previously? Did he have better or worse players than under previous management etc etc.
He has my full support but it isn't blind faith. He has kept us up, we'll never know what would have happened if Bielsa had stayed, but he has 100% acheived his first target. Next season though will tell us more and whether we as a club are simply the new Burnley or do we have a manager that can make a team better because he is the manager. Does Pep make City better than they are, yes, likewise Klopp, likewise Conte.
