Excellent post Cjay and the hope is that both our team and MU's were unable to adapt to tactics that may actually work but were sort of bad fits at the time. I doubt Klopp, Pep or Bielsa would have been able to do well at MU (admittedly they would all have done better than Rangnick).
The point about our hybrid team reminds me of a post I made recently asking whether performances had gotten worse over time under Marsch - basically had they got worse as we went more towards Marsch's tactics and away from Bielsa's. The Leicester performance, in Marsch's first match in charge, was probably our best performance under Marsch but wa salso our most Bielsa like performance. I do feel we then went more towards Marsch's preferred tactic but then edged back towards playing a bit more how we were used to hence the hybrid.
MU aren't a pressing side and players like Pogba, Fernandes and Ronaldo are used to other players doing the donkey work for them. It is hard to really read too mcuh into Rangniek's time there albeit it was shockingly poor.
Hopefully in our first match of next season we will see Marsch's tactics in full flow and it will blow us away like Bielsa's firs match, v Stoke, did.
I think you are right I think Marsch did try to implement his tactics early doors and actually that Marsch/Bielsa hybrid at Leicester worked very well.
Understandably he wanted to move closer to his own style though and it didn't work. That isn't his fault, we all know the squad wasn't suited to it and that was obvious to anyone except Orta who probably just got all excited when Marsch said "yeah I like to press and be aggressive off the ball".
Once that happened Orta phased out whilst Marsch explained the differences between he and Bielsa.
Rangnick was on a hiding to nothing at Manure as you suggest. His tactics were never going to work there with those overpaid lazy lumps. He is a very interesting and innovative man Ralf Rangnick, he is no fool.
People look at the Red Bull teams and admire them for there style and scouting and what not, that was Rangnick, he built that network similar to Bielsa in South America.
Rangnick is very similar to Bielsa.
A very intelligent and influential man and yet one whose probably a bit to intelligent and thinks of tactics thay are excellent if perfected but basically impossible to perfect.
Rangnick's ideas clearly work to a degree and that should give us hope regarding Marsch.
Klopp uses elements of them, Tuchel to, Julian Nagelsmann, Marco Rose, Adi Hutter, Oliver Glasner who won the Europa League with Frankfurt the other day.
Top coaches who would be candidates to take over most of the top jobs in Europe use elements of the same style Marsch uses.
So Marsch has the tools and the skeleton of a really effective and enjoyable to watch style (and its enjoyable as anyone who watches Liverpool or Dortmund or even Frankfurt the other day can see).
But he needs to do what those managers have done and adapt it slightly.
Same as Pep did with Bielsa.
He needs to take the best bits of what Rangnick teaches and use his own ideas or even Bielsa’s ideas and mould it into a more effective style.
If he can do that then no reason he can't be a success here imo.
