Hjelde is the better LB than Struijk who's best position for me is DMF, still think Firpo is very dangerous going forward and defends well enough (Kristensen error leading to the goal today and beaten by Neto? (was it) too often..

Strujik wasn't all over the place. Defensively he played well. But he is a center back, built like a center back. We do need a left back that can offer more going forward.

And I do think Hjelde is physically a better fit at LB

Quite good. Pressure on the ball. Won duels. Picked up loose balls. Real presence for us in the midfield. Best football of his career.

[Advice for the Americans today?]

Talked to them about adaptation and heat the league is like, but they're both intelligent, we know each other really well, ease to the way we work. Pleased for both of them because how highly I think about them as people.


His future?
Let's see how it goes. As long as he's here he's fully committed. Clear he wants to play because of the World Cup. Have to think about what's best for us.

Klich needed?
IF you watch how I interact with the team, there's always emotion for me from players. I know what it's like to be frustrated with your coach. None of this is personal. Klich and I have had disagreements at moments and good moments. I like it when players say what they think and he does that. Figuring out the puzzle of what we want the team to look like and how it fits. Spoke to him about his role in the match and showed his quality.

Replacing Phillips and Raphinha require solidity?
Always room for individual quality, but it's about all 11 players at all moments being connected. Prevent an opponent. Not chess pieces, but dealing with people. Need clarity for everyone on the pitch is the challenge of this job. That's what we try to do every day. Pleases me when we see guys on the bench being ready rather than disappointed.

Lage history
Last year too. First half today and second half. Emotional moments. I wanted to be respectful, but it didn't go that way.

Difference of having a pre-season to midway through?
Bever felt better about being somewhere. The reality is the work was embedded in stress last season. Difficult to implement things the way we want to. A lot of work to get to where I see us. The work every day is amazing from the lads. Special group. New guys have added to it.

Struijk full-time debrief?
That was about his positioning and build-up phase. Makes himself playable and make himself usable in the next action. He's smart and he was explaining himself to me. Defended well and good on set-pieces.

Lage
Normal in some ways. Respect him a lot.

Struijk?
Thought he was good. Talked about positioning with the ball. When a three and when a four at the back in build-up. Really pleased we looked like a team that understands the tactics and ideas. Three points validates the work we have done.


Debuts
Talked a lot with the team about the level of the PL. Hard to mimic that in training. Roca at Munich learnt the behaviours about what we liked to do against the ball. Adaptation gone smoothly. Aaronson's goal has been OG, but he was active all match.

Unlucky on the goal. Defended well. Ran hard, good decisions with the ball.

Why Klich?
One of his qualities is he can run. Struggling to cover spaces where Neves was. Settled things down when he came on. Disciplined with his positioning. Important plays including second goal.

Talked a lot about good starts. Thought we did start well. Strange goal. Chips to the second post. Weird bounce does not allow Illan to read it. Even after going down, we responded the rest of the half. Unlucky not to get a second in the first half. They pushed really hard after the restart. Subs was important. Klichy made a big difference and Greenwood too. Good to see them make a difference. Be resilient and validate the work with three points.
