Leeds were condemned to their 11th League defeat of the season, losing to their arch Nemesis Manchester Utd as the Heavens opened over West Yorkshire. The boggy conditions were more reminiscent of trench warfare, and so were some of the challenges. A total of nine players (six from Leeds) were booked as Paul Tierney struggled to keep in control of the game. Scott McTominay was fortunate to stay on the field after flattened Robin Koch in the first half, which led to the German being unable to continue. The Scottish International continued to ride his luck after the break.

After a non-eventful half hour, Manchester Utd took the lead. Shaw's in-swinging corner was headed in by Harry Maguire. If that wasn't bad enough, it was their first goal from a corner all season. They doubled their lead late into first half injury time. Lindelof's surged through the Leeds midfield before passing the ball to Sancho. His teasing delivery into the box saw both Fernandez and Ronaldo lining up to deliver the fateful blow, as the Elland Road crowd were temporarily silenced as both teams entered the dressing room at half-time.

Llorente and Harrison made way for Raphinha and Gelhardt after the break as Leeds pressed forward. Their hard work was soon rewarded (53 mins) when Rodrigo's cross from deep on the left wing found its way into the back of the net. Smelling blood, Leeds broke forward from the restart, and equilised less than a minute later. Dan James' low cross was turned in by Raphinha, to the delight of 35,000 delirious Leeds fans.

As on so many occasions this season, jubilation soon turned to anguish when second half Fred beat Meslier at his near post, to put the visitors back ahead with only twenty minutes of the game left. Leeds misery was complete two minutes from time when Anthony Elanga added a fourth for the visitors.

Somebody mentioned here that the first 20mins would be vital, well i thought we started off fine and were playing good stuff taking the game to them in atrocious conditions, until, another fecking injury, good luck huh ? who needs it?
I wasn't particularly bothered that he didn't start Raphina coz i could see what he was doing there with his set up against Scum, and after Brazil Raph has been off the boil and perhaps needed a rest.
We need to forget about this man to man at set pieces coz we're fcking useless at it, we need to set ourselves up where we attack the ball. When oppo's stand on the edge of the area or penalty spot, they have a huge advantage over us running at the incoming ball and thrusting themselves up to head it, we on the other hand are backtracking whilst trying to man mark and leave ourselves at a huge disadvantage when then trying to out jump the other player, just imagine that for yourself.
We need to be attacking the ball the same way they are attacking the ball.
So pleased he didn't create another shitfest/storm by introducing TR, overall whilst obviously disappointed with 2-4 I thought we played ok and that team would've beaten over half of the Prem, it's just a pity that we're facing a run of games where this team without KP PB will probably come up short, we are absolutely desperate now for some good fortune and the cavalry back asap.
Keep up the good work Bert, keep attacking, keep us entertained and please have enough good luck come your way to keep us up, but ffs get the set pieces sorted.

You'll be surprised how much good luck is involved in almost everything on a daily basis, on another day Jack Harrison doesn't balloon that glorious chance early doors wide and it breaks the net, Bert must pull his hair out at the football we play, but chances we miss.
Btw that Koch better be hurt, coz i didn't see no Englands Terry Butcher blood stained fight there.

Great to hear the crowd backing Bert from the first to the last  :shirtw:

Our defence has been a shambles all year. Pair that with an attack that has lacked depth or any new signings and you end up where we are now. It's hardly surprising that if you run a very lean squad that you could get hit hard with injuries and then not have the resources to cope. I think Bielsa's more sanguine tone of late and the speculation of his future is everyone at the club realising they have got it wrong re. transfers in. They are now praying the 3 teams currently in the relegationn spots are shite enough to stay there.

Minute 31 the score is 0-0, Robin Koch has to go off injured.

Firpo comes on and goes left back with Dallas moving into cm, Forshaw moved to dm where he played the majority of his career pre Bielsa all be it in the lower leagues (Whether Firpo is fit is a discussion for another thread). Ideal? No, but based on what we had it was logical?

MB though does this.

Dallas from left back to right back.
Llorente from right centre back to left centre back (where its well known he struggles).
Luke Ayling from right back to right centre back.
Pascal Struijk from left centre back to defensive midfield .
Firpo to left back.

He changed the entire defence, every position.

He moved 3 players Llorente, Struijk and Ayling into unnatural roles.

Had he done the Forshaw, Firpo and Dallas one then at worst its Dallas who is the only player into an unnatural role as he isnt really a proper cm.

In the final 15 minutes of that half we concede twice.

It always baffles me, most managers are desperate to avoid disruption. Bielsa actively causes far more disruption to his first 11 mid match then he has to regularly.

He has done it dozens of times, 1 injury or change and 4 or 5 players move position.

I cant understand why.

I mentioned it in another post why do we continue to fixate on the man and not the ball at set pieces,it infuriates me
Llorente wasn't even looking at the ball
