Newcastle United's six game winning run came to an end as Leeds ground out a goalless draw at St James Park. It was far from pretty, but when you're hovering dangerously close to the drop zone - needs must.

At times, Leeds got ten men behind the ball, and when that failed, Meslier proved a more than capable last line of defence. The Geordies had their chances, but lacked quality in the final third; that's not taking anything away from Leeds, who stuck to their plan, and frustrated their hosts.

Offensively, Leeds had little to offer, and rarely ventured into Newcastle's final third, but that didn't matter. Not many teams will pick up points at St James Park this season, let alone keep a clean sheet. Cooper, for all his faults, put in a Captain's performance at the weekend, long may that continue.

Good escape for you.
Thank Christ we didn’t have him back.
So Fish seems as we have a defensive crisis what has Howe done to make you so watertight?
Short answer is intelligent, intense pressing.

Add some good recruitment;
Pope is a great shot stopper, good coming off his line to sweep up, and decent in distribution.
Trippier is phenomenal, best right back I've seen at the club in at least 20 years, maybe more.
Botman is a Rolls Royce of a defender, still hasn't lost a game in the PL.
Big Dan Burn has been a revelation at LB. He starts in that position but as Trippier bombs on, he tucks in a little more to operate as an ersatz 3rd CB.

Away from them;
You've got wingers on either flank who defend and press from their 6' yard box all the way back to ours, while also providing pace and options in transition.

The midfield all press, all look for the striker or winger sand all provide support in attack.

The striker never gives the centrebacks a moments rest.

Howe has them all incredibly fit, motivated and educated.

Only Dan Ashworth could sell Wood to Forest. Only DA could get a loan fee (£3-5m) plus an agreed fee of £15m if he achieves apparently achievable targets. So we'll have relegated Burnley, filled a gap in the squad with a proven PL striker, comfortably achieved safety, then moved him on for an outlay of just £5m.

That chance towards the end to level it up... I know it's a phrase used a lot, but I honestly could have scored that. Just take a touch, go round the 'keeper if you have to, but hit the f**king target man.

He's a decent target man, but only when we've got good players around him. No good with Murphy and Ritchie and that shower of shite.
