Sometimes I think I'm not watching the same game as other people in here. Yes I'll agreed that up front we're pretty crap, but if Rutter's disallowed goal had stood, still can't believe that it was ruled out for Wilson's Oscar winning performance in the build up, if his header hadn't hit the post, who knows what would have happened in the end. Gnoto forced a great save from their keeper. We lost to two brilliant strikes, the first one was down to an error on our part, but many other strikers wouldn't have scored from there. Mitrovich, who has been bullying defences so far this season was relatively quiet. I wonder why! Perhaps we were lucky, it can't be anything to do with our defensive improvements. Silva deserves a huge amount of credit for the way he's got Fulham playing, at the start of the season they were one of my teams to go straight back down. How wrong I've been. So we're out of the cup, but personally I'd be happier to stay up this year. I can see improvements in the way we're playing and this is allowing Firpo to look much better now, a couple of months ago out set up was a bit 'headless chicken'. If we can only score, I can see us getting three points against Chelsea. I think that, under Gracia, we are likely to get the points we need to stay up. Strikers permitting, looking forward to seeing Rodrigo back. Here's hoping!

I'll just settle for a 0.19- 1.53 win.
Or maybe one like Liverpool 2.09 -1.66 v Real last week.
I need new columns in my results spreadsheet.
Or perhaps the emperor needs new clothes.

50/50 on Rodrigo atm i feel, he's speaks Spanish though so he might not sulk this time (no ref to Bert intended) i don't think he has the ball playing skills though, but Javi might get through to him, time will tell my friend, 50/50 atm for me.

Agreed , didn't see it all but looked alot more solid and competitive in a good sense.weasel wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 10:54 pm We did, on both points. However football is a fickle game and I felt if we'd got one we'd have got another even if it as in the last few minutes. I really can see us giving someone a thrashing and then we'll hopefully have a few players with confidence up.
In some ways tonight reminded me of some of the games under Barry White in the championship where we'd be the better team, comfortably, yet be unable to score and then lose to a sucker punch. The confidence I had then was that if we kept playing that way then we would win plenty of matches. I have that same confidence now and by and large it is the same problem and to some extent the same players who still struggle to convert the chances.

This.weasel wrote: ↑Tue Feb 28, 2023 10:13 pm Not sure why there is a lot of doom and gloom tonight. Considering it was Gracia's second game in charge I felt the improvement in our shape and structure was immense. We didn't look like conceding every time the opposition came forward and we created bucketloads of chances, decent chances too. I would be more worried if e weren't creating chances or if we were only creating chances by flooding everyone forward and leaving ourselves exposed. We never looked exposed yet still created plenty of chances even when Fulham were 2-0 up and able to go defensive.
I saw positives, largely for the first time, from Rutter. We had a goal very harshly ruled out which likely would have changed the match and it took a stunning strike for s to go behind. Yes I'd love to see us have someone in our midfield able to hit shots like that but equally we have in Gnonto, Summerville, Rutter, Bamford, Sinisterra, Rodrigo, Harrison a lot of players that can score goals - I can see us giving someone a hiding soon if we play like we did today.
We had some careless moments but we have to remember that we have completely changed our style, almost overnight. I felt really optimistic about us, for the first time in a year, on Saturday night and am even more optimistic now. If we Played that match again with the same amount of opportunities to both sides I think we probably win it 8 times out of 10.
Yes, we were profligate in front of goal and a couple of loose moments gave them the goal opportunities but I saw enough to go into the remaining fixtures with a bit more optimism than of late. Wasn't perfect by any means, but we played some good stuff against a side sitting in the top six and on a very good run.

V Chelsea be interesting.
Two teams underperforming their XG by a fair bit.
Two teams with low confidence.
3-3 most likely

Yep i can't wait, they're currently learning what we're about to start learning again, so what's Javi gonna come up with? What plan ? Formation ?
From last night i can see his way forward, but so soon against Chelsea ? I don't think so, he'll play right into their hands.
He might be better off taking a leaf out of Jesse's book just for this one game, then start his plan again.

We were definitely watching a different game then.
Rutter did ok. Unlucky not to have 2 goals.
Personally I’d just prefer to have Rodrigo back.

According to the esteemed wine writer Jancis Robinson a good wine should have a beginning, middle & finish.
We have a decent beginning, reasonable middle and no finish. So more Blossom Hill than Krug or piss weak at the end if you will.

Is it unlucky if it happens every game? We've long passed that stage now, it's the lack of quality for this level. Even Firpo's goal was a scuffed shot that squirmed under the keeper.

Never said it was Gracia's fault. I said it was the poor recruitment and overrating our players, same as it was last season. There's only one man to blame on the recruitment side.

It was a cup game ffs...we should have thrown caution to the wind and really gone at them, what the he'll if we shipped 4 or 5 goals......I am just a fed up fan who knows, despite all the opinions and bullshit, we may play well pretty often but that won't add to our points tally !!!
