The dilemma is that we have better fixtures now than at the end of the season. That said, I fancy us beating Spurs at home in the final game. Would be nice to have a 4 or 5 point gap going into the final 3.GreennWhite wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:16 pm Much needed 3 points and other results went our way tonight so happy at that. The league table is very flattering to us at the moment and i can see us back down 2 or 3 places again in the near future. Its going to be like this for the rest of the season, up a couple pf places then down a couple, results are all over the place for all teams down there.
Victory over Place would be another massive confidence boost but it wont be easy as they are a hard side to play against and are much better then Forest.

Re: Leeds Utd 2-1 Nottingham Forest - Post Match Debate
I think the frustration with paddy is more to do with the fact that we seem a top striker away from being a solid prem team...we had a huge chance this summer/winter to get that striker but (at least for now) seem to have wasted thst chance
Paddy has obviously given a lot to and for us over the years and we should always thanks him for that but he hasn't looked the same since his spell of injuries...
You can say that he does a lot of movement and running for the team but (as corny as it sounds) that lone striker needs to score goals rather than be a good runner, there's plenty of others who can just run around

Beat palace & Leicester, possible point each off Liverpool & Fulham and I think that will be enough.Chilli D wrote:So we now have 29 points. How many more do you think we'll need to be safe?

In the first half I thought I'd missed Ayling signing for Forest

I would agree to that to a large degree. Likewise I've always been a fan and understood his role, especially under Barry, but he does look to have lost a yard of pace and I don't know if he can get that back. I would have him starting though at present but that is down to Rodrigo not looking sharp either and us having no other options. I hope that an end of season break and then a full pre-season may see Bamford back to a better version of himself.malcolmw wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:10 pm I agree. I've always been a big fan of his, but he just isn't the same players since the numerous injuries. He's slow and a good couple of paces off when trying to pick up anything. Perhaps he's been made to look a bit slower with players like Gnonto, Wober in the lineup and playing under the new system. But, end of the days those are rationalizations really. OK off the bench, but shouldn't be starting.

Wow - it's amazing how people see a game differently. I thought Bamford was poor.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 8:47 pm Thought Bamford was immense today. Great in his hold up and linking play. We have nobody else that does what he does. Disppointed he didn't take that one on one with Navas. Should have hit the top corner. But just dragged it wide. He's still not goal front sharp. But he's so key to everything else we do.

If you checked who has given the ball away most over last season and this I would be surprised if it's not Ayling

Agree totally. He's a spent streak of piss now and would struggle to make it in the championship where my granny could defend against him.Cjay wrote: Working hard isnt enough anymore sorry
We dont create the volume of chances we did under Bielsa where it made sense
I dont consider working hard to be enough and i have defended Paddy going back years so isnt a Paddy hater thing
Just think his finishing is a hindrance now and his link play isnt what it was.
So aside from a warm body he doesnt provide enough and hasnt for a long time
If we lost today then Bamford would have got hammered for that miss.
And it wouldnt be all well done pADDY
SInce when did a player working hard but not holding the ball up, not finishing chances, not linking play still get a good performance.

As a 9 I am not Bamford’s biggest fan. He is too one footed, lacks pace particularly from a standing start and tends to be a bit static and predictable in the 6 yard box, but right now with what we have available he starts for me, work rate and intelligence is often under-rated but it is a huge part of his game and you need someone like him to create the space for runners to exploit.
If we stay up I would not lose sleep if he was replaced, but right now I think he essential.
Ayling like Cooper has to set the tone as the captain, which means being brave with the ball and trying to push the team on. They never hide and try to play progressively, you need the captain to be willing to get the mentality of the team right on the pitch. Whilst it may not always come off you need that in the team. Can be hard to watch but as a leader others follow by the example you set.
McKennie was accused by many of being over weight, that lad has one hell of an engine, he is improving within the set up game after game.
What stood out for me about Roca today was his coming out of defence with the ball on one particular occasion whilst surrounded by florist players, he took it on the chest and rather than looking to just get rid as he has a tendency to do he looked up and was trying to play a purposeful ball. Shelley managed to nick it off him, but Roca’s intent was spot on for me.
I never witnessed any panic in the team at any time and that is a huge sea change since Gracia came in, very similar to Bielsa in that we played with purpose and had a new found confidence across the team in possession.

Just a thought. Do you think Bamford could play a different position cause he's certainly a poor striker

Not convinced he would be effective elsewhere tbh. He leads the line and his running off the ball is best utilised in that position.whiteinfrance wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 9:37 pm Just a thought. Do you think Bamford could play a different position cause he's certainly a poor striker

Faaip - that was Firp’o’s best game. A few poor delivery’s but that happens, best defensive display I have seen from him. Got tight on his man when needed and stood off when required.

I reckon he'd be good as a corner flag. Static and flaps a lot but also buckles under any challenge.whiteinfrance wrote:Just a thought. Do you think Bamford could play a different position cause he's certainly a poor striker

Bamford was up against two big defenders for all of the match, his movement & hold-up play was good. Unnecessary criticism imo!andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 8:47 pm Thought Bamford was immense today. Great in his hold up and linking play. We have nobody else that does what he does.
