I don't know enough about him. Seemed highly rated when he burst onto the scene a few years back and was scoring a few goals. Looks like a decent midfield battler who does have the abilitiy to chip in with a few goals. It's what we need though, we need s trong squad. I've made the point before that if we'd bulked up our squad then we'd have been more competitive piror to Bielsa's sacking as we would have been able to field a stronegr XI than we could and also not have had all the youngsetrs, and Tyler Roberts, on the bench.
£15m today is probably cheap these days for a prem squadfiller. Just the way it is with 'proven' prem player prices.

Was highly rated once, didn't quite make it but as a local lad he has a lot of fans who appreciate he gives his all and gets stuck in.
A solid player to have in your squad but one who probably does benefit from being a local lad in terms of the view of Newcastle fans.
If you think of it as a Rothwell replacement at Premier League level it's OK.
Just seems expensive given he only has one year left on his contract and someone like Xakha is available for half the fee

Xakha wouldn’t come to us at this present time no matter whether we can afford him or not. He wouldn’t fancy a likely relegation battle or the prospect of been stuck with us on significantly less wages in the championship. Longstaff is a good signing, not particularly exciting granted but he won’t cause trouble, likely to be a good influence on the squad and will give his all for the cause. Also likely to stick with us if relegated.

I doubt our fans who are dissing Longstaff have hardly seen him play.
So we have Amps, Ao. Gruev and Longstaff, four players who can dig in when needed.

Maybe that suggests they are prepared to give him silly money - I’d still rather a 27 year old to a 32 year old looking for his last pay day before dotage. I really don’t think it’s expensive, 15 million for a lad with years of prem experience, yeah he’s only got a year left but we still want him now so doesn’t make much difference.
