Its a team game!Tom the Cat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 11:32 am DCL is a decent target man who puts himself about and can hold up the ball but it is beginning to look like he cannot hit a barn from ten yard let alone a barn door.
What about all the other b*ggers who keep missing chances & also put in a poor shift?
Aaronson cost us £27m & regularly misses chances, a one on one at Burnley
Piroe cost us £15m & missed a sitter.
Bogle cost us £5m & managed to clear the crossbar from standing on the goal line, thought Jayden was poor on Saturday.
Harrison missed two chances, Jack defintely couldn't hit a barn door. One goal in 34 appearances last season, no wonder Everton were
Calvert-Lewin's chances were much more difficult, half-chances at best!

Wasn't a political statement
DCL was just worried he'd injure himself.

I’ve seen every game Leon and I can assure you that DCL has only scored 1 goal in all 8 of them so far.

DCL isn't alone of course in missing chances but his reputation precedes him.1964white wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 12:48 pm Its a team game!

The only person who can change perception is him by scoring goals and getting assists.
Eventually much like Bamford "putting a shift in" isn't enough, not when your the highest paid player at the club.
You could sign some 6ft5 bruiser from League 1 on a quarter of the money to win some headers and rough up defenders.
DCL is paid huge money to do far more.
I'd actually trust him to take a pen tbf though, his record is decent.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I’m desperate to see him shut me up by scoring and assisting the goals Leeds urgently need, I have no beef with the lad personally, but the new DCL I was hoping for is nowhere to be seen at present.
And you can bet the 49ers didn’t offer to pay him £100k a week to waste chances - less clear-cut against Burnley granted, but certainly in previous games.
Step up DCL.

I don't usually post in the Man of the match or the player ratings threads but always read others views, but agree that some post ratings without even having watched the game, highlights or only seeing one half is not enough to give a proper opinion

Absolutely, CD...........but tbh I'm not surprised, as his goal scoring stats at Everton (certainly in the last few seasons) didn't suggest that he'd suddenly start scoring a hatful for us.Carrick Dave wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 6:19 pm I’m desperate to see him shut me up by scoring and assisting the goals Leeds urgently need, I have no beef with the lad personally, but the new DCL I was hoping for is nowhere to be seen at present.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
This has the makings of another "Barn Door Billy" episode for Leeds United. DCL is a leaner version but equally as scruffy in looks as well as his all round play. Perhaps will stick around for a season or two and then disappear into the ether.
I hope not. I am hopeful that the team as a whole can conjure up some sort of purple patch and DCL will start finding the net. Some players just take a longer while to settle - Ross McCormack, Chris Wood - and then for a while they look the dogs gonads until we sell them off.
This is what clutching at straws looks like!

Sorry at this stage even Bamford was an upgrade on him
Yes the rest of the team is poor at providing and assisting, and he doesnt have a wand to make something happen out of nothing, but at least a goal....... an assist, we are 3 months into the season already.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Even Everton didnt want him
He had a purple patch for them 3 seasons ago where everything he did turned to gold
about the same time as Rashford did at man utd.
Since then he has done the square root of bugger all

I honestly think dcl is a waste of space,if he scores 6 goals this season I would be amazed farke needs to play a system where Piroe,Nmecha, Gnotto,James .I personally would forget Aaronson and Harrison waste of space .

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
With each passing game I despair more and more of DCL. The same goes for Nmecha. You can put up all sorts of reasons and make all sorts of excuses - like he was isolated, had no service, there was no support around him etc. But just stop and smell the coffee. Neither of those two has the look of a striker that is going to get a goal in open play ever again. Whatever the aim or the plan in playing either of those two - it ain't working nor is it looking remotely likely to. We are utterly toothless up front. Jury is out on whether they are good enough to play in the Premiership for Leeds United. Daniel Farke is staring down the barrel as a result
Those responsible for taking a punt on these two freebies should take a good look at themselves as it is backfiring spectacularly! !
Add to the striker problems, we have Gnonto and James on the missing list for a variety of reasons. Whenever they are present this season they are a shadow of the players that we have seen in the recent past. Jury is out on whether they are good enough to play in the Premiership at the moment.
So there are 4 players of the First Team squad with a huge question mark against them in my book

Nmecha is a poor man's Brian Deane and I'd take Bamford back over DCL everyday of the week, he's totally useless and you can add Aaronson and Harrison to that listPhoenixUnited wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 10:20 pm With each passing game I despair more and more of DCL. Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Not a big fan and felt Dunk in particular pocketed him quite easily.
But with the way we set up even if he'd won more duels and held the ball up who was he playing it to?
The support was camped in our half terrified of crossing the half way line whilst for the vast majority of the game we patted the ball around in our defensive 3rd waiting for the best pressing team in England to come take it.
