Our defence was a bit of a mess yesterday. I suppose we have to accept that Liverpool are a quality team up against defenders who were playing in the championship last season, so errors are inevitable at this level. We stay up & we can improve our squad season after season, just as Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, etc have done over a period of time.
Exactly 64. Yes we can be critical when any player makes mistakes but when you are in that situation and under pressure not only from the player in front of you but also by opposition players around you who know how to press well and stop passes getting out, its very difficult.
We need all our players to adapt quickly to this league as it doesnt allow you to make mistakes too often, and not punish you. I believe we will survive if we can do that, and importantly keep players fit.

The way Bijol man marks the oppositions centre forward is outstanding. Doesn't need any help as he's rock solid which then allows Struijk and Rodon to deal with any other threats.

Struijk dealt with Haaland

It's to be hoped so as Jaka was on the bench for the first half :)

Jaka and Rodon have been very good since they were paired together. Still room for improvement as well which can only be good for us.

Rather like Hojlund, he'll probably look better elsewhere.

Was rock solid again today.
Agree that playing in a 3 suits him. Struijk also seems much better in the 3.

Bijol just behind Pascal for MOTM imo!

Best moment - Dealt with a one on one challenge magnificently.

Won lots of headers/blocks/tackles.

Watching their goal back, Bijol gets drawn out of position by about 15 yards by Sesko.
I’m not blaming him, he shackled Sesko every time he ventured near our box and that must have been his directive by DF, it’s just a shame it happened then (I still think Perri should’ve done better).

Had he let Sesko get picked up by our midfield then he could have covered Struijk and Bornauw for the goal as he generally plays a yard behind the other CB’s.
I thought our line was a bit too high too, especially after just going in front minutes earlier when they say you are most vulnerable after scoring.

Don't forget though that Sesko is the attacker. With us playing 3 at the back it is a CB's job to mark Bijol and when Bijol is drawn out it still leaves us with 2 CBs in place. Zirkzee was the one where we'd have ideally had a DM marking or a DM occupying space between Sesko and Zirkzee to try to win the loose ball.

Perri doesn’t appear to do one thing or the other.
Just a moment of indecision. I wouldn’t drop him because of that.

No wonder there is space, when our CB’s are marking our own players 🤣🤣🤣

Yes it does leave us with two CB’s but Cunha runs into the space between Bornauw and Struijk that Bijol vacated, and both were running from wider positions to try to plug the gap but couldn’t quite make it.

I’m more puzzled by us so high up, when Cunha makes his run, he’s 30 yds out which could be why Perri started to come out and then stopped - if we’d been 10 yds deeper Perri might have stayed where he was or better still made it to the ball.

Disagree with most of that. The midfield had been by-passed by the time Sesko touched the ball.
Without Bijol closing him downl he would have had a lot of space to turn and run at a deeper (15yds?) Bijol.
Great CB play for me.
When Z[rkzee plays the through ball Cunha is covered by Struijk and Bornauw, but he is just too sharp for them.
