Great game and we didn’t deserve to loose after playing so well.
However we missed two free headers from six yards either one of which would have given us a two goal lead.
The stupid substitutions with ten minutes to go cost us as did that dithering pillock in goal. He cannot command the six yard box and actually dived over their winner. Have you noticed that all opponents take inswinging corners cos they know he cannot deal with them - the guy is 6’7” for goodness sake.

I presume we lose the pressing when DCL comes off - Okafor doesn't press.ElKapitan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:37 pm I get why he wanted to freshen it up and protect DCL..... But..... The drop off with him off the field is massive we have nothing to come on without him..... Surely playing 86 mins is not much different to 104...... The drop off has been seen so much this season.
The one that got me was replacing stach with okafor..... Bring on an extra midfielder and crowd them out..... Keep the height.
Didn't expect anything tonight..... So there's that and they put so much effort in to a man but the recruitment has been mediocre for some big money signings. Okafor, Perri....... Neither are very good. Feel sorry for aarronsson.

I was mocked by someone for talking about us conceding too often down our left. I didn't watch it live, but as Barnes got a hat trick I presume that we conceded 3 down the left ?

Sometimes subs slot in sometimes they don't.
But isnt the issue that we havent the squad depth as the likes of Newcastle. Their bench cost the same as our starting 11 at least.

I'm guessing you were not able to watch the game. Stach, Rodon, and Aaronson were all injured and HAD TO COME OFF! Yes, it hurts not to close the game out and win it. But give Newcastle a little credit. They kept fighting and found a way. It was a cracking match!!ElKapitan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:28 pm On farke for me.... Fell apart after the sub's. Either defend the f**k out of it or keep the same team on.
Taking DCL off on 86 mins caused this for me.... An extra 10 minutes I can't see making a huge difference in this game when there was an opportunity to win. Odd game with the extra 10 can't hurt.
Was stach injured? Again...... Why bring him off with his height.... Knackered, sure.... As their midfielders were able to play on and were also knackered. Bring on a winger centrally....cut us to pieces after.
We looked shoddy against manu when we took players off.
Great game but that's a needless punch in the dick.

According to someone on here we don't have any issues down our left....White Riot wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:36 pm They had fun down our left all night and only some great interceptions of crosses prevented a few tap ins.
Farke did nothing about it.

Not criticizing our performance but a response to the question. It depends on the formation. If we are playing with wingers they have to track back and prevent an overload. If we are playing 5 at the back the left center half has to provide the cover to the wing back.

The issues with Perri;
The guy is a monster, but he looked scared out there. He should be way stronger with that body.
And when he is so big his reactions are very slow.
I am sure Darlow would’ve saved both shots from Barnes, but he would have messed up in some other way, but I will still play Darlow over Perri.
How is it possible that a premier league team can’t find a better goalie? Just get someone from championship. If Perri continues he will lose us more matches than Meslier.

Too many cooks, which will happen with so many defensive players on. Players will often naturally leave it to another player. There was some top defending in there too but we're no defending as a team, we're still not good with three at the back yet, I did say it takes time to settle.
Rodon back too early maybe too, wasn't on his A game tonight and I don't think he plays well next to Bijol

I dont feel the need to dive straight in and criticise Farke. I’d be more concerned about a defeat like that starting a bad run. FA Cup being the starting place.
I declare my love for Saint Daniel and I can shoehorn him in to any conversation.

Unsure if its because teams can bring on equal quality for 3/4 positions on the 65 min mark..... Against tired legs they seem to find a yard.
Tanaka..... Just looks a bit lightweight physically.... Want him to do so well but defensively struggles at times. Okafor in midfield is a crap sub.... They walked through him..... Stupidity from farke didn't get it. Also nmecha for DCL.... Forward play and offensive capability to get up field drops off a cliff.
Every promoted team has it but just gutting to be so close to what could have been a season defining result.
Ahh well the effort is there play like that and we'll get the points we need. Proud of em! Mot

We have had Wiedwald, Casilla, Meslier and now Perri....Allrounder wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:43 pm The issues with Perri;

Re: Newcastle United v Leeds United Match Thread
A very disappointing result.
Newcastle seemed to find opportunities on our left side - we need to fix this, before other teams learn to do likewise.
Fortunately, we are still 8 points in front of West Ham and 9 better than Burnley. Hopefully, we'll win our next league match, which will be at home to Fulham.
I feel encouraged, because had we won or got a draw, the result wouldn't have flattered us - I'm sure that we'll stay in the league this year, as there are at least three teams that are poorer than us. Importantly, a number of players have really improved their performances this season.
