We lose any pressing high up the pitch with those two on. Absolutely not the players you want on to see out a game.ElKapitan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:44 pm Unsure if its because teams can bring on equal quality for 3/4 positions on the 65 min mark..... Against tired legs they seem to find a yard.
Tanaka..... Just looks a bit lightweight physically.... Want him to do so well but defensively struggles at times. Okafor in midfield is a crap sub.... They walked through him..... Stupidity from farke didn't get it. Also nmecha for DCL.... Forward play and offensive capability to get up field drops off a cliff.
Every promoted team has it but just gutting to be so close to what could have been a season defining result.
Ahh well the effort is there play like that and we'll get the points we need. Proud of em! Mot

I was watchingBlackHillsPaul wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:41 pm I'm guessing you were not able to watch the game. Stach, Rodon, and Aaronson were all injured and HAD TO COME OFF! Yes, it hurts not to close the game out and win it. But give Newcastle a little credit. They kept fighting and found a way. It was a cracking match!!
Stach injured? Wasn't sure just looked tired walked off.
Aarronsson I didn't mention......he was injured.
Rodon thought bornauw was faultless.....
Reread my comment I said the starch for nmecha was mental which it was. They walked through the midfield with him there.
Taking DCL off with 10 mins to go while trying to protect him I can't see what 10 mins extra in a game like this would hurt.... 86 mins and we lost any capability to get up the pitch and relieve pressure.

A lot of "dodgy" keepers in the prem. Donnaruma looks very dodgy and he plays for a team playing for the title... Alison for Liverpool was really bad v us. We've benifitted from a number of keeper errors, it's not just Perri, it might be the way the prem is atm, keepers don't get the protection they did 20 years ago.. ... Plus a lot of world class strikers.Allrounder wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:43 pm The issues with Perri;
The guy is a monster, but he looked scared out there. He should be way stronger with that body.
And when he is so big his reactions are very slow.
I am sure Darlow would’ve saved both shots from Barnes, but he would have messed up in some other way, but I will still play Darlow over Perri.
How is it possible that a premier league team can’t find a better goalie? Just get someone from championship. If Perri continues he will lose us more matches than Meslier.

Yes they were, it was a cracking match and we did well but as gutted as I'am I don't share what others have said that we were robbed or didn't deserve that, Newcastle were bombarding us at time and and missed so many chances, they cut us open for fun, there were many scrambles in our 6 yard box that it was amazing how it didn't go in each time, they could have scored 7, although we could have had 5 ourselvesCHAPELALLMAN wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:43 pm Ok, thanks. I must have misread it on the text feed. Still, from what people have said they were cutting us open for fun down our left...

But we wernt playing with wingers, so that left Struijk ( not our quickest CB) between two stools.)STLWhite wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:42 pm Not criticizing our performance but a response to the question. It depends on the formation. If we are playing with wingers they have to track back and prevent an overload. If we are playing 5 at the back the left center half has to provide the cover to the wing back.
So he goes across and we are effectively man for man pressing their front two with Joelinton Tonali and Gumares breathing down our necks.
Fact is they got lucky with a penalty award and put it away.
Farke is doing a hell of a job trying to bridge the quality gap with his team.

Think a draw may have been fair?
Admittedly Newcastle had a number of scrambles in our 6 yard box especially late 2nd half.
If your an xG fan they edged it by a fair chunk
2.72-2.05

Okafor for Stach, should have been Tanaka... Like for like is usually best. the only other sub of consequence was Nmecha for DCL whic is also not like for like and it showed.. The other three were time wasting subs, Bornauw/Tanaka and Gnonto all on in the 97th.ElKapitan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:49 pm I was watching

I flagged this up after the ER game and was laughed at by an "expert" on here....Pubrunner wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 10:47 pm A very disappointing result.
Newcastle seemed to find opportunities on our left side - we need to fix this, before other teams learn to do likewise.
Fortunately, we are still 8 points in front of West Ham and 9 better than Burnley. Hopefully, we'll win our next league match, which will be at home to Fulham.
I feel encouraged, because had we won or got a draw, the result wouldn't have flattered us - I'm sure that we'll stay in the league this year, as there are at least three teams that are poorer than us. Importantly, a number of players have really improved their performances this season.

I think we deserved the 3-3
They did but we also had a few chances.
XG suggests they were nearly a goal better than us.
They were.

The subs everyone asked for were Tanaka and Gnonto, I didn't see anyone asking for Okafor or Nmecha lol. We lost it once DCL went off, as you knew we'd sit back and they'd equalise. We would've won had he stayed on as there was a tap in opportunity and no one was in the box.

3 subs in the 96th minute, away from home and against a good team should never have happened. Takes a player 5/6 minutes alone to get into the game. Schoolboy error.

We must have taken the advice of those responsible for the signings of Wiedwald, Casilla and Meslier....

I don't think we managed the 2nd half well tbh.
Wouldn't have complained about the draw but frustrating.
We'd been getting deeper and deeper.

Have never understood the thinking behind this. A player sits there watching the game for 96 mins, probably comes on a bit nervous and then is expected to perform immediately.
