You do realise Gruev was talked about as not being good enough to come off the bench only a few weeks ago, Now he's a key player? I thought everyone, bar me and Riot , loved LongstaffYorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 4:59 pm Good point away from home against a top team.
Gutting we didn't hold on for the win though, don't quite have the strength in depth to swap out both Stach and Gruev for similar players.

Much will be said of Nmecha’s missed header and rightly so but DCL also had a few poor touches in the box I’d have expected better from too. Still happy with the point just reflecting a bit more on it

Ooosh shots fired
Tbf we've got to be happy with that.... Yes I'm pissed that we conceded but great performance.
I genuinely think we're missing competent sub's for key positions. I think long staff is an excellent buy.... Not in the club of people who hates him. But we haven't got players to come on a revitalise the midfield like help out a tiring Ampadu, replace Gruev.....
I.e. nmecha for aarronsson takes a lot away from midfield and opens up space that the terrier type attitude of aarronsson closes down off the ball.
The money is there if we're bidding 40 million for a luke warm level striker..... Just a couple of players..... And I genuinely think we turn some of these draws into wins.

I think so.
But can also acknowledge was a missed opportunity and we have the 3rd lowest average points in the league after taking the lead.
It's a frustration

In fairness to Longstaff, he's a great dead-ball player for the opposing side!

I knew the equaliser was coming, we are so predictable in our approach to away games. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 5:00 pm If you sit back like that you expect to concede, Nmecha had a chance with a diving header but that was about it second half...
Stop whinging Leon, we didn't lose the game.

I didn't moan tbh, thought it was the right sub. We can't complain we're tired when every week we wait until the 75th min or after to make subs, and then we're left with unfit players who never feature.Johnthewhite wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 5:06 pm But people moan when Longstaff comes on so what is he supposed to do

I've been out all day so just seen the result, excellent point away but dear oh dear we love dropping points in the last minutes of games and from set pieces too

We, once again, conceded a late goal, because we sat back and let them attack. It's not like it happens every away game or anything. If we go down, things like this will be the reason.

A good point.
It was kind of inevitable that Villa would score, having 74% possession in the second half, albeit a bit lucky. There's no way Abraham meant that.
The Martinez save from Nmecha was crucial.
We score that and we win the game.

Gruev isn't at the level of Ampadu (who is himself a lower level prem player if we're being objective).... Gruevs stats back that up over the course of the games he's played. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 5:11 pm You do realise Gruev was talked about as not being good enough to come off the bench only a few weeks ago, Now he's a key player? His sublime pass/assist a couple of weeks ago changes fickle footy fans minds though.....
Longstaff again was criticised like all the rest early doors..... Then was injured for our resurgence period which had nothing to do with the players but the change in formation/approach.
Fickle footy fans just like scape goats..... If they can back it up by stats its credible. More often than not its just people venting....
Gruev is slow, none physical and dallies on the ball too often.... However gives it his all and has a lot of ability that at times really shines if he's given the time and space...
There's a reason long staff shone in the champions league a few seasons ago.... More game time and I'm confident we'll see the same.

No it’s not! Could gave been 2 up if Nmecha had buried that header but that doesn’t come into the equation either…

He was a donkey, he is a donkey, and he will continue to be a donkey.
That's not his fault, he's a limited player.
The fault is with our recruitment team for paying over the odds for a player that no other EPL team was the slightest bit interested in signing.

We conceded a goal because we didn't defend a corner very well.
Sitting back didn't come into it.

Ball came off his hands and then his legs incredibly lucky save. Nmecha could not have done more to score with that diving header.

If you sit back and invite pressure surely that increases the likelihood you may concede though?
No team has a worse record than us after 80 minutes, can't be coincidence.
Goal had luck absolutely but pattern was well worn before.
