Need to see more of him. The question is if he is mobile enough to play in a back three. He played in the center of a back 5 against the USA. I don't know if that's a tell or not. Need to go back and watch some tape of him in Italy.

Tarik is a good player, no doubt, and someone I think will do well for us.... but young and ultimately unproven for this kind of money. He plays for sassuolo, in the 25/26 season he was in the bottom 17% of players across the top 5 leagues for ground duels engaged per 90 and the bottom 43% of duels won. Gets booked a lot and likes to do hard tackles, a lot of fire etc which while great, doesn't fill me with confidence when adapting to the prem/prem refs. Other than that he has outstanding metrics in the air/clearances in top 98th percentile with very high stats for all other metrics. He doesn't progress the ball well and isn't the best technical tackler in the world though so not a like for like for Struijk.

If we paid massive money to get this guy and he's a success all is good.... If we paid this money because we needed to make the deal as other bigger prem clubs were circling then fine its the position we're in but its a big chunk of cash.

This is the second summer window for our young head of recruitment who has never held this position or built depth of contacts at any level never mind at prem/international level. Its a big bite of the apple for his first swing. Hope it works

35 million is a lot but this guy looks like he is a good player with room for improvement and the ideal replacement for struijk....

Let's not forget though, this is a replacement for a first 11 player... Not depth for the squad, not immediate improvement. Much like Wilson if we lose Gnonto we will be replacing not building. If we get another 3/4 players of similar quality to add to the squad... Then we'll be cooking but midfield(stach cover/left back(gudmunsson cover) and striker (dcl downturn/injury would of relegated us last year) and needs addressing along with an upgrade/cover for Aaronsson.
