Not fair on the player. - especially one who, as DF has said, is a model professional and has always given 100% in training and matches.

For which we thank him and note that he has been handsomely and 100% rewarded in terms of his contracted wage. This is a case of hard nosed business I'm afraid and not one of touchy, feely nice.

Just had another thought on this situation.
Maybe family issues are behind this ?
Wife, children not settled in the UK and he's getting it in the neck to move, so has to put his case to DF / the board.
DF did alude to "the club doing the right thing by him" or something like that after the game last night (I think).
Then DF giving him loads of minutes could be his way of trying to get him to speak again with his Mrs, to try and smooth things out, or put him in the shop window ?
DF did also stress how professional Bornauw had been, which could mean it's not actually a footballing issue but personal/family. As I think we all know by now, DF would not betray the trust of a player on such an issue, so maybe just maybe something along these lines could make sense of all this.

Its not selling a car. Its a human being. If he wants to go - for professional or personal reasons - his energy and focus wont be right and that can impact the whole dressing room

I think Leeds are doing the right thing by saying we want him to stay, but if he really wants to leave we dont stand in his way. We find a replacement.

We replaced Pascal who we also wanted to stay and sign a new deal, with arguably an improved defender.
We could do the same here.
That is the right way to do business.

Tough! Bornauw signed a 4 years (or was it 5) contract!

He has to be worth £15m. 25 years old. Model pro. Premiership standard. Does not matter how much we paid. We paid £17m for Raph. 2 years later we sold him for £45m (too cheap). He has to be worth £150m now. Hamburg can go whistle if they think they can get Bornauw on the cheap. If I was manager: that's the figure I'd slap on Bornauw. I suppose we will very much have to disagree on this one

Yes we will.
We have a manager - and managing director - who are very focused on having a well aligned, energized squad. That arguably saved us last season
If Seb is forced to stay, that may impact his focus.

There is much more to this than just the numbers. Send him out on loan if we cant get his $ value right now, but get him out of the squad.

He can be replaced.

We dont need another McKenny, Adams issue (not that I think Seb would be toxic like that, but focus on whats right for the squad for this season).

Once again no one outside of the club has the full truth on the Bornauw story. Fans are making up stories or thinking it might be this or that. As much as he may want to leave i cant see that happening until we have a replacement ready to step in and cover for him. Farke has said the club are working with him and there doesn't seem to be any bad feelings on either side, so that's good. So maybe Seb, has agreed to play and help out until we get cover and when that happens he knows he can then get the move he MIGHT, be looking for.

No, no. I set out the counter view and I don't completely disagree with what you are saying. It is a hard thing and it is a decent thing that the club can show due consideration and compassion.

Hamburg are going to France for 2 days Thursday/Friday and Bornauw's name is not on the flight list! There is no mention of a medical for bornauw either. This could all be coming from Germany and there may/may not be any truth in it. Until we hear from anyones agent, I think we can assume Bornauw is staying here...

In fact if anything it was my recall as to how some of the club's prior owners acted imo, and I think it impacted our ability to attract in- demand players for a number of years.

Playing him for 90 minutes yesterday may have been a signal to him and the fookin Germans (as I said yesterday).

Hamburg are not a shoe-in to remain in the first division in Germany. They are, like us, second season in and although they finished mid-table, I've read it wasnt convincing. I've also read their financials dont look too marvelous.

If he plays against Augsburg, surely that will be it.??

Just posted an update on the Elvedi thread. Seems way further advanced now. So has he been lined up as a replacement for Seb??
If so - and it happens - it would be a significant step up in quality. Current international (looked good in the wc), played 33 Bundeliga games last year.

If this rolls out in this way, it may well seem that Farke gave Seb a swansong in Dublin - which would be one hell of a nice gesture.

He was a very good technical player and someone we have hardly replaced (Hernandez aside that is). We've not had a proper 10 since Saiz. Destroyed his own career after he left here IMO...

One of the best players I’ve seen in the flesh at Elland Road, very exciting, didn’t know what he was going to do next.

Very sad how that ended, but family always comes first.

The first time nothing happened as there was insufficient evidence but the second time he was found guilty and banned for 6 matches. It was the Club that decided to let Siaz go and Bielsa didn't object. From memory I wasn't surprised he was let go. It was probably for the best

It wasn’t mate, Saiz had a devastating family issue and his wife, unsurprisingly, wanted to go home.
