Also, you do realise he took a heavy knock at the beginning of the second half yesterday and didn't manage to run it off, hence his substitution.

Seems to me that Gnontos' development has stalled. He needs a run of games to get properly match sharp and for whatever reason he has barely had a look in all season. He has, when available, been a bit part player and has not pulled up any trees when he has had the opportunity to get on the pitch - simply because he is short on match sharpness and probably confidence too.

It's a Catch 22 situation where he's concerned. It's a shame

The Gnonto situation is something that happens all the time in football. Im sure there are countless players in the top 5 or 6 leagues in Europe that are very good but for one reason or another just dont get the game time they or the fans would want.
Its been happening for a long time, and will continue to happen for a long time to come.It shouldnt ( but does ) become a slight on the manager when it happens. Its a real shame for the players that have to cope with that, but its something they just have to get on with. Some cope with it better than others, they continue to be part of the squad and cause no problems, while others throw a hissy fit and cause problems.
We are lucky that the likes of Gnonto, Piroe and others havent seen the need to be like that.

With 80 minutes on the clock I looked up the odds of Struijk to score the first goal as he was looking the most likely to score , he was 40/1 so I put 5 euro on him, 3 minutes later he gets subbed but the player coming on takes his place in the market, that being Dan James (sub on play on) so you get offered your initial stake as a cash out or have the bet on James to score, I cashed out straight away, had more of a chance of Struijk scoring from the bench

I agree with you. Dan James is a very good EFL CHAMPIONSHIP level player. But he's never really shown that he can do it consistently in the Premier League. But he will have moments. But this should be his last season with Leeds.

Dan James is a very likelble player and as honest as they come. Gives it his all on the pitch. However he is of an age and at the stage of his career that he should be producing his very best and as things stand, what he is offering up is not enough to be a starter in this Leeds United team.

For Leeds United to move to the next level they need to be looking for upgrades for the likes of James, Aaronson, Longstaff, Nmecha in the next couple of Transfer Windows. For me, it is a make or break season for Dan James as he is at the head of that list.

DJ has always been inconsistent but he has often shown that he can have a spell of matches where he can bang the goals in. For me he is now a fantastic weapon as a sub. Brought on late against Newcastle was ideal. He could slot in at right wing back but gives us that pace to hit a team on the counter without simply knocking a ball over the top. He showed that he could get the ball, in our half, beat a marker and then burn away and get a shot in. So what a weapon that can be, especially given that we prioritise attacking from the wing back position.

So yes he will blaze shot after shot wide, high or straight at the keeper but equally he gives us such a threat because he is capable of turning nothing into a chance. Could easily see him getting 5 to 10 goals from the bench.

Also with his versatility he can come on in place of Okafor, on the right as an extra winger, as a wingback etc so dependant on the match situation he gives us different options.

I've always supported Dan James on here (even when he had become a scapegoat) but as our squad improves he is looking more like a really useful impact sub.

He helped lift us in the second half against Brentford purely with his pace and energy if not end product.

He gives a really useful outlet too when defending a lead and putting ourself under the cosh, as we can tend to do.

Also never forgetting that he is a Yorkshire Lad!
