I'm getting to this a little late. Just woke up in California. I'm reading reports that Orta and Radrizanni are in Spain negotiating. The reports also say they've agreed personal terms but not a fee (funny I didn't think you were allowed to do that). ANyway the press is really hot on this story right now. It looks as clear cut as the Dan James deal.

Seen a fair few of talk on twitter saying that this might have some real interest in it. Though £30 mil for a 29 y/o is pretty interesting

€29-39mil (£25-35mil).

29 years old but Guillem knows his onions so trust his judgement.

He is the Spanish national teams main striker at the end of the day.

Good enough for Spain and for league title and Champions league winning Luis Enrique.

You’re allowed to discuss personal terms with a player if their club allow you to.

Even if no fee has been agreed, if Valencia say we can speak to him then all is good

I have to say, this would be a sensational signing if it comes off. Leeds spending £30m+ on a striker - great stuff.

Remember guys - it's not done until Dan James club signs off on it. I mean until Rodrigo's club signs off on it

So close now that it makes one nervous! This would be a class signing and a real statement, potentially encouraging other signings to move as well.

Great experience in a top league and 22 Spanish caps is definitely not too shoddy - great work by Orta and Radz if this gets over the line.

I did think the same, we're by far from being a rich club and this deal would have very little resale value at the end of it. But then got to thinking, if he's a vital part of the cog that keeps us up for a couple of seasons, then it is money well spent.

If he comes i cant wait for uninformed people like Paul Merson telling us how he isnt good enough, not a natural goalscorer (after Merson has looked at his stats on Whoscored.com).

Most direct comparison i can think of is Raul Jimenez at Wolves.

Same age roughly (although Jimenez was 2 years younger when he arrived in England).

Both played in La Liga and for Benifica in Portugal.

Difference is Raul flopped in La Liga, 1 goal 2 assists and Atletico Madrid let him go after 1 season.

Both shined in Portugal with almost identical goal contribution stats (roughly a goal or assist every 95-100minutes).

Jimenez is more of a number 9 but similar career paths, not to far apart in ages and when Raul was having is 1st season in England (he did well) Rodrigo was helping Valencia win the Copa Del Rey (contributed goals or assists in Quarters, semi and final) and helping them get to the Europa League semis (assisted a goal in both legs) and Valencia finished 4th in La Liga.

Comparatively Raul Jimenez has scored 114 career league goals and managed 51 assists.

Rodrigo has 112 goals and 59 assists.

Not a huge gap and Rodrigo has spent longer playing at a higher level.

Valencia fans rate him highly it seems:

Leeds All Over (@LeedsAllOver) Tweeted: “A sale that hurts the soul” is one of the phrases being used by Valencia fans following their announcement. Wow. #lufc

This is excellent news! Unless, of course, this is all a dream. I'll check in tomorrow to make sure.

Looks good on paper, but so does fish and chips.....promising stats, highly rated, wrong side of 27 for me but let’s wait and see and in Bielsa we trust

Hope it’s a movie I’ve not seen before

I don't know anything about the player, but when you read words like the above, it gives me a lift. Valencia have had some great teams and players down the years. They know their stuff.

With his name ending in "o" its shouldnt be too hard to think up a song.

Rodrigo, Rodrigo,Rodrigo,
Rodrigo, Rodrigo Rod-rig-o-oh

( to the tune of here we go , here we go)

Took me all night to come up with that.

Thoughts? :-D

It's a risk, but then who isn't? £25m for Watkins off the back of one good season in 3 in the Championship and Sharp, Pukki and Gayle all scored more goals. I'd rather risk it on a player who's played World Cup, Champions League, Euros, La Liga.

At the end of the day, not bothered about re-sale value, we have plenty in our team who we can sell on. But if we are an ambitious club, we'd be talking about how our signings can keep us in the PL and win us trophies, rather than thinking about how much we can get for selling them on.
