Obviously what ayling did was very stupid but I'm more than willing personally to overlook one mistake in what 4 years or so of loyal service - been a great player for us over the years. Understand how frustrating it is though today but I'm sure he's disappointed in himselfWhite Riot wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 3:09 pm Yeah, these defensive lapses are gifting matches to opponents, as has been the case all season.
Hopefully, Ayling's last match for us as that was disgraceful.
Tough on JG, but himself and Bate should get the opportunity to strut their stuff against Cheatski.
Need to be fired up from the off on Wed night.

Re: Arsenal v Leeds Utd Match Thread
TBF on Meslier it was his first touch that cost him rather than dallying. He took his eye of the ball to look for an out. But quite frankly we have always played ourselves into trouble all season trying to play out from the back when pressed. We go back and back and the squeeze is on the goal keeper who always has the most jeopardy with that tactic. He will learn from that.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 3:02 pm Now today.
I can accept being beaten by a better team but to lose because of dreadful individual errors isn't OK.
Ayling is an absolute disgrace and Meslier has been dallying all season and was guaranteed to get caught out eventually (he isn't as good on the ball as he thinks).
The squad plainly doesn't suit Marsch's style which isn't his fault.
You can see it in the fact he has to play Klich as a dm when he plainly isn't.
It exposes the full backs which is fine if your full backs can defend which Ayling and Firpo definitely can't.
It's to narrow and the squad was built for width, the whole thing is wrong.
The lack of quality will likely send us down, the poor recruitment, the poor fit in terms of style vs players.
One and only real positive today was Bate who was decent
Players losing their heads or berating the ref is just plain stupidity.

Dan James played well in the right WB position and Firpo was better when we went to three at the back. WTF he started with a back 4 is mystifying.

What was so great about losing week after week and letting in tons of goals.
Surely you are smarter than that!

Re: Arsenal v Leeds Utd Match Thread
I agree Bielsa shouldnt of been sacked in February....he should of gone in DECEMBER.
His Newalls Old Boys fandom on here really are showing how pathetic & deluded their adulation is....especially when suggesting others dont know football.....NOBs in the extreme.
Great 2nd half from the lads..and JM deserves credit for addressing the defensive frailty as soon as Ayling went off.
I highlighted Ayling tendency to rush in after the Palace game..and maybe he needed speaking to....clearly that didnt happen.
I also suggested James might do well as a Wingback....and imo he had a decent shift in a more defensive role.
Struijk again outstanding....but i was most impressed with Bate....he should start alongside KP on Weds.
Meslier....ive lost count how many times his footballing skills..or lack of any..have dropped us in it.
Interesting that a MB discard scored their goals....and another who he didnt fancy bagged a brace for the Hammers

I'd go along with this generally. Was a way better performance than I expected last half hour. 2-0 down to that lot and losing 2-1. That has got to give you some confidence as a player.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 3:02 pm Now today.

It's pretty obvious individual errors cost us even if the system doesn't work.
They should be playing for their lives for the next 3 with 2 at home

I think the loan contract will be until June 1st or something like that.
I am fairly certain he will be under contract until after the seasons both end and you can't recall loan players outside of the transfer window.

Re: Arsenal v Leeds Utd Match Thread
We were doing that even in the Championship....and especially where Meslier is concerned.
He is without doubt..a Goalie....in that he has no skill whatsoever with the ball at his feet. You never trap the ball dead under you when someone is pressing you....and to take the ball across his goal line was madness.
But i will say....the players who keep putting it back to him in these situations..when they too have a chance to clear it....are as culpable.

How can anyone call us negative when we had only won three games by the end of December, conceded more goals than Watford & one less than Norwich, also struggled to score goals all season, more importantly no quality back-up in key positions?

Did the sun go in
I'd have a little more hope now than the zero hope I had an hour ago if Marsch can learn his lessons from today and get the right team out. It must be obvious now. Surely
