Was assuming it would be today as his contract expired yesterday and to lessen the Pascal blow

OK..... This does improve through the middle in place of okafor etc.
But is it me or does our transfer business seem like its got no long term vision I.e. we're not signing the next batch of Gnonto's to bring in high value in a couple of years?
We can't compete with top clubs for top players but can while they're just breaking through..... Nowsthe time to buy them.

They care about having an established Premier League club when they sell.

That only works if you can replace them with better every time. It worked for a while for Southampton, Leicester and Wolves until it didn't. If we want to re-establish ourselves, we need players that are going to be good enough for 3/4 years.ElKapitan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2026 11:09 am OK..... It is short term stability to enhance long term plans. No point going down trhe Orta route, for example, splurging big money on the likes of Rutter who wasn't good enough at the time we bought him. We need to ensure premier league survival, that is the only aim at the moment. BUild the solid foundations (quite literally in terms of the stadium) and then at some point be ina position where we can make speculative signings where it isn't disastrous if we get it wrong.ElKapitan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2026 11:09 am OK..... Where is this high value for Gnonto you speak of?
I think we need a balance. Experienced pros to secure our position over the next two years and some young prospects.
Wilson and Charles are that balance surely?

Re: Harry Wilson- agreement reached
Likely the club want to do the whole signing video etc before announcing the deal - as such HW will need to be at the club to do all that. Would have thought though that it is all signed.

Re: Harry Wilson- agreement reached
We signed him for £3.5 million I believe.... Everton wanted him and were (if press is to be believed) willing to offer £30 million two seasons ago(around the time he kicked up a fuss). Great player for championship but it was a huge chance to impact psr positively.... Two seasons later he's down to 1 year on his contract and we'll be lucky to crack 7.5.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 2:23 pm Where is this high value for Gnonto you speak of?![]()

Charles while a good player isn't looking like he will sign for us and at 25 million is unlikely to develop into someone worth significantly more than the original outlay/wages unlike gnonto..... Wilson.... At 26 million for a 29 year old in his position its dead money in terms of recouping it in a later sale. Think he'll do well but its a lot of money for a winger when we don't use wingers
Agreed we need balance.... But high potential youth with growth potential to balance psr worries in future seasons has to be part of that progression plan. Just look at Struijk.... gnonto etc could have quite easily made 50 million out if the pair of them for an original outlay of 7million.

Re: Harry Wilson- agreement reached
I get that 100%..... Though 26 million on Wilson (used as a winger in his best season last year) who will be used centrally for us.... At 29..... Is a big splurge in itself especially considering general drop off for wingers post 31/32. I think it'll work but second half of last season Wilson didn't look great...weasel wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2026 4:29 pm It is short term stability to enhance long term plans. We're also looking at Zion Suzuki..... For big money.... Mixed reviews by both Japan and parma press to replace our big money keeper from last year who was pretty much defined to fail based on even a cursory look at his history/reports. He has looked OK at the world cup.... Could work but not sure. Certainly seems we're we're buying a young keeper for 25 million+ when its the one position you can get quality at an older age for a lot cheaper.
Struijk goes for a pittance we're looking at bringing in a cheaper older unknown.....
Its not so much the Wilson transfer its the general panic buying scatter brained approach of the last few windows of which the 49'rs led on.

Great way of thinking about it Cjay.... I'm normally the first to step back and understand the wider picture/motive but you've hit the nail on the head.
Only thing that makes sense to me with their strategy.
