Another who might not return in time for blunts game. If the games are Japan and Oz but hopefully if the last game is in Saudi that's a 7 hour flight.....not long haul. Still a jet lag flight mind, they usually are night flights....or they used to be.

The club can't ban Tanaka from going as its an official FIFA fixture.

The only way out of it is Tanaka rejects the call up which he won't.

Or if the player has a very convenient injury as many Manure players did during Fergie years.

An 18000 mile round trip with the final fixture not scheduled to finish till around 13:00-13:15 Tuesday.

So even if he got a fairly immediate flight he wouldn't return after a 14 hour (or even more) flight till maybe 5am Wednesday.

The rules dictate that players are still required to report for international duty and medical assessment. Now sometimes that gets waived and the player just stays with his club for treatment. Also if a player withdraws through injury then their international federation can insist that they miss the first club fixture after the international break.

So would you take the chance that the Japanese FA (for example) wouldn't make that request ?

My MOTM too.

Ideally I'd like to see him play as the 8 with Ampadu or Gruev behind him. He looks a massive upgrade on what we had from Kamara in the 8 last season. But we don't have that choice.

So ... I thought he was great in the defensive role today. Sheff U have some good attacking players. Allowed Firpo to play more advanced. Hustled well and made some excellent tackles and interceptions. Not bad for man that was on a transcontinental flight a couple of days ago. He's looking like an inspired signing.
