Another midfielder in there? I find that hard to see at this point.
I think Gruev will be offski, rightly or wrongly, if we’re looking at a flair 10.

Longstaff is the PL Gruev.

I really don’t think it’s expensive, 15 million for a lad with years of prem experience, yeah he’s only got a year left but we still want him now so doesn’t make much difference.
Each to their own.

Big fan myself of Xhaka.

I hope its Longstaff plus 1 more is all.

His first season for Newcastle was the season they got promoted I think. Before that he played for Kilmarnock and Blackpool in league 1 - on loan (his best scoring season)

For the money I think he is ok.

We really under rate Gruev, very very good at what he does and an international and second best Bulgarian player currently. His selection was the difference last season at the end..

Throw in Aaronson as well.

Yeah, him.

Charmed life that lad leads.

The Buendia story did the rounds again this week. We can live in hope I suppose of a shiney new AMf to join us

I dont underrate him I just see him falling down the pecking order especially if we want to see if we can get a tune out of Gyabi who incidentally is in the final year of his contract now

Gyabi’s tea’s out.

Fwiw, I think he’ll develop into another Cresswell-style success story away from ER.

Do you reckon Gruev is a Premier League player?

Gyabi will get released, loaned or sold. He's not prem ready yet

Gyabi was just a way to shave £5M of Citehs PSR when they took Kp off or hands.

Be shocked if we don't given the lack of creativity.

Be equally shocked if its Buendia though, feels like a player we'd have by now if wanted.

Can't exactly be beating down his door clubs given he's done nothing of note for 2 seasons.

Cjay wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 9:42 pm But in the Premier League he hasn't really.

If you look at the data his strengths are tackles, blocks, running around and progressive passes (basically Forshaw if you want a recent comparison).
Interesting that you mention Forshaw as I had been going to bring him up in relation to how Bielsa saw Forshaw in his side. Forshaw was a player who didn't score goals or assist yet Bielsa played him in a very atatcking midfield role. We'll never know if it would have worked because of Forshaw getting injured but it shows how managers can ignore the stats and see a player in a different light to the rest of us.

Didn't work when he did play in that role, he was crap.

But for a comparison Longstaff is that type.

Newcastle fans are quite open with what he is, energetic, tackling, give his all simple passes type.

Not very technically good.

Hopefully a good squad edition which is basically what Newcastle fans are saying.

Does suggest we are going 4-3-3 though imo

I don't think Longstaff is anything like Forshaw, Forshaw was very labouring, Longstaff is industrious, hardworking and similar type to Jordan Henderson.
Farke seemed to find a role last season end for Gruev to help the defence when Bogle went forward, he might keep him as he knows he's also hardworking, but for some reason I feel he's going to Rangers, I don't know why other than some sort of managing the psr/books.

White Riot wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 7:28 pm Great news about Longstaff :ok:

Newcastle are just pushing their luck, so keep him lads.

He's a heat map merchant same as Forshaw, so why we're offering good money for dross like that baffles me?

He does nothing with the ball, and Farke already demonstrated that we're very competent at passing the ball around on the half way line.

He's no better than Ampadu, or Tanaka.

Let's get some quality players in, I don't see why we would look to subsidise Newcastle's squad improvement, they deserve to get stuck with him.
You're going to need someone you can rely on in the trenches. He'll give you 100% every game and Is a really good passer. He's a perfect signing for Leeds and as an Toon fan, without being disrespectful I hope, you're gonna need some players who will fight for your cause. Hes a bloody good signing and just what you need.,

Great to hear this Spotty, from someone who watches Newcastle on a regular basis.

I think a section of our fans are underestimating Longstaff's ability & experience he'll add to our team.
