Very good player who hit a shaky patch.
Move would suit him, can play on both both right and left and would probably be looking to push Bogle for a starting spot. Good competition at right back that.

No but a brand new Audi/BMW would be nice, rather than the 15 yr old Mondeo estate that fails MOT's on a regular basis

Not sure I'd want to put too much faith in DJ this season.Orange Box wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 9:31 pm Erm, Dan James. From what I saw at Villa/Newcastle, played at walking pace, he’ll be a revaluation. Now if he can only provide a final ball ….
At EPL level ,Not wanted at ManU, loaned out by us to Fulham, where he hardly pulled up any trees.
Hope I'm wrong and he has a blinding season, but I can't see it.
Willy ,for me, will be a bigger cog than DJ.

I am referring to a 9. DJ often gets isolated on the break and does not always have the easy pass inside for someone who can match his speed on the break. Having to play the ball across the box as he did on a few occasions to Solomon last season is not easy.Orange Box wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 9:31 pm Erm, Dan James. Hope im proved wrong Madron, but i tend to agree with you and DJ. Im expecting him to show glimpses of how good he can be but i think he is more suited to the Championship than the Premiership.Madron wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 7:33 am Not sure I'd want to put too much faith in DJ this season.

Ever since James left Swansea the side he has played for have always needed the passing into the box to be precise.GreennWhite wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:15 am Hope im proved wrong Madron, but i tend to agree with you and DJ. Now Leeds have a bit more height and muscle on in the team I hope that now we are in a better place for the likes of DCL to be more adept at getting their bodies on some of DJs efforts into the area from wider areas.

Rereading the thread I get that now. True, we do need someone to match DJJs movement to give him a good quick option. Until someone better decides our Leeds ‘project’ is worth being part of, we’ll have to hope Nmecha or DCL fill that role, because sure as hell it ain’t Piroe - his strengths lie elsewhere.

Possibly in doubt now after a Leicester player got knee damage on Saturday (according to SSN)

James Justin - Signed
We have agreed a £10mil deal for Leicester full back James Justin (feels steep)
Primarily a right back but can play left back.
Made his name at Luton where he established himself as one of the top young full backs in the EFL.
Been a relatively important player for Leicester over the years and a member of the Championship and FA Cup winning teams.
He's known for his versatility, reading of the game, energy and awareness.
He's also a physical player a 6ft player able to compete athletically.
Downside is he's suffered two very nasty injuries in his career and is a feeling he's never properly recovered, lost some pace and dynamism and hasn't been the same player since.
But a very experienced player.

£10M is a fair lump to pay for a back up?

Probably too good to be a back up.

I can’t see him displacing Gudmonsson or Bogle, unless injuries occur.

I agree, I'd rather use that money for two loan fees for PL players.

i don't disagree, they've probably been our best 2 players across the first 2 games.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 8:11 pm I can’t see him displacing Gudmonsson or Bogle, unless injuries occur.
Just saying that he's also a capable player and the price seems reasonable.
You either pay the money and have 3 reliable players to cover injuries but risk one being unhappy on the bench.
Or get a less proven player happy to sit on the bench.

Re: James Justin- Deal close
Don't know anything about him but the fee is probably about right given his level of experience and his ability to play on both sides. I guess the way you can look at it is that we are in effect paying £5m for a back up left back and £5m for a back up right back if he is equally adept at both positions.
Concern would be the injuries but it seems that we want to get full value out of our medical team. Perhaps with him being signed as a back-up we can be more careful with him (ala Byram) and can also do more specialist work to get him back to his best - i.e. work on his speed etc without him getting the type of knocks to his ankles etc that you would get when playing so it is like you are getting a sprinter up to full speed rather than a footballer.

Re: James Justin- Deal close
Looks like he is a far more defensive minded player. Wonder if the idea is that in some matches he will play to specifically try to keep an opposition winger quiet and we would have our attack minded fullback (be it Bogle or Gudmonnson) on the other wing.AcrossThePondAsh wrote: ↑Sun Aug 24, 2025 8:32 pm A bit of apples to oranges given Justin teams, leagues, etc. but it's Sunday and I was bored![]()
