Okafor sub was such a puzzling one for me. Tanaka was the logical choice.

So... for me - great game of football. We came up a bit short, but proud to be a Leeds fan.
Yes, some criticism, but I'll run with it.
Well done lads.
Brendon - good on ya lad! Really maturing as a footballer... Just to piss the "realists" off - I give Farke and his team credit for mauturing our young Brendon.

That was a mental game, and we lost as didn't control it well enough once we had lead on 80 mins. some fantastic points (like
Aaronson being really good!
Stach being dyanamic
Gruev passing in the 2nd half
Justin and Gudmonsson being strong.

Aaronson played really well but you're right, what the hell was he doing for the pen. Not only did he turn his back on it, he threw his arms up in the air.Jaydog wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:12 pm Farke has a job on his hands now after that.
Good run turns in to a bad one over defeats like that.
If people want to blame him thats fine but then what was Aaronson doing for the pen. And everyone gave up on the ball at the corner flag that Miley(?) kept in.
That led to a goal.

For me it was taking off Stach that made the wheels fall off . Real shame but great game for the neutral

My view on that is the lad was absolutely knackered at that stage and was the best he could do to even get there when nobody else was giving a damn. Chasing that ball into the corner or cutting that cross out was Okafors job, but where was he?
I gave DF praise when it was due, but even the fairy on top of our Christmas tree could tell Brendan was cooked and should have been subbed earlier.

My 2p...
We should have got something from that.
Farke has been absolutely superb since the second half of man city and not put a foot wrong, but last night he got his game management all wrong and cost us at least a point.
The subs were wrong people, wrong times - Newcastle had made probably 4 by the time we made our first which was the wrong one in Okafor - I mean what has Gnonto done to him? Or indeed Tanaka as others have said.
The other subs I felt he did for timewasting purposes and not tactical purposes and that backfired on him. Bornauw should have replaced Rodon much sooner it was clear Rodon was out on his feet as were others and indeed Joe was only returning from injury.
Its ok for forum users to make valid opinion criticisms like the above without others jumping on them about the manager IMHO

Stach ws out on his feet, as were Rodon and Aaronson.
Arguably Farke should have introduced fresh legs earlier. Three/four games in a short space of time certainly took it's toll yesterday.

Re: Newcastle United v Leeds United Match Thread
It was me who mentioned Bielsa Bongo but it was meant as a compliment, a barnstorming, end to end game between 2 teams with only one thought, win the game. We’re basically a Championship team trying to keep up with proven top 6 Premiership teams & players. Absolutely gutted we lost but still proud of the players, gonna be a tough ask to keep these performances up until the end of the season so we need to use the January market wisely.Bongo1874 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:54 pm What a game we got a bit lucky at the end, apologies guys you will most definitely stay up more than good enough.
We need 2-3 players in to really secure top4/6 this season schar likely to be out for a long time now.
Seen someone mention Bielsa if he was managing Leeds tonight Newcastle my team most likely don't win a draw at most.
Farke gave Newcastle confidence near the end.
If anyone had offered me an 8 point gap to the relegation spots after 21 games I’d have bitten their arm off.

Okafor came on for Stach because Stach was injured.
He didn’t replace him as a like for like, Okafor took Aaronson’s spot and Aaronson dropped back into Stach’s position.
Why do people think he replaced Stach’s position, he didn’t ?

We ended up 5-4-1 didn't we? Okafor left, Aaronson right.

Re: Newcastle United v Leeds United Match Thread
When I saw the Newcastle line-up before KO, I thought we were going to get pumped. As it turns out, I'm gutted we didn't get at least a point from a cracking game. Subs, or lack thereof, definitely cost us, but I can't be too downhearted as we matched what is an established top 6 Prem side. Had to be f**king Harvey Barnes, of course, he loves scoring against us. Proud of the performance, in the main, poor in-game management let us down. But we go again.
As others have said, forget about the cup, put the second 11 out and give our first team core a rest. They need it!

Better defender, not going forward. Gudds and Justin are old fashioned full backs, Bogle a wing back.

Okafor was the closest to DCL and Aaronson dropped deeper I thought.YorkshireSquare wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 9:37 am We ended up 5-4-1 didn't we? Okafor left, Aaronson right.
Aaronson probably wouldn’t have been where he was for their penalty if he’d played where he started the game.
