Bogle hasn't been anywhere near as effective in the Premier League as he was last season. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:06 am Better defender, not going forward. Gudds and Justin are old fashioned full backs, Bogle a wing back.
One assist in 19 PL appearances.
Average player rating 6.6 in the Premier League.
His goals/assists/rating was excellent in the Championship, poor this season.

That Barnes winner in the 113th minute was the latest winning goal scored ever in the Premier League.

In fairness, we were camped in the opposition half for most of last season.
Bogle’s defending has arguably been better this season as he’s had to do more of it and therefore can’t be overlapping to the same degree.

Re: Newcastle United v Leeds United Match Thread
If Stach had to come off (injured or whatever) it had to be Tanaka on, Aaronson, was as tired so it made little sense putting Aaronson in Stachs' position even if we did. Plus Aaronson and Stach start as a pair of 8's anyway
No clue if it cost us the game but Okafor added nothing really (not his fault, just wrong player, wrong time) and our entire midfield was tiring.
Perri should do much better for the winner though, poor keeping. But to throw him under the bus isn't good. We now have two keepers who's confidence has been destroyed and a meh third string journeyman will probably start the next league game
I do recall Farke backing Mes when his blunders cost us, so really strange he's gone this early on a new keeper. Is there anyway back?

Aye - I was going to mention the same after the game - but I wanted to avoid the post match frenzy.
I think some folk forget the difference in quality of the squads - particularly the depth that Newcastle have. How many expected a performance like we witnessed.
I do not mind losing if the team play with passion, commitment and bravery. I was seriously doubting Farke after Brighton and Forest. But we look a pretty solid unit now.
Nmecha converts that great work by Okafor and we walked away with a point. Most of the criticism would have been muted.
Fine margins at this level.
Perri is the most eccentric keeper we have ever had. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when he was jumping about flapping his arms on his line at corners. Truly bizarre - he is certainly feeling the pressure. He should have saved their winner - his hand was trying to scoop the ball rather trying to push it past the post. Therefore the contact was not strong enough to keep it out.
As I mentioned weeks ago - He really does give me a Onana vibe.

And we won't get much from Justin going forward. We already know that Gudd's excellent forward sorties will likely come to nothing because no end product.. No assists and very few chances created (if any) from dozens of good positions. But excellent defender despite the fact we seem to concede more down our left. That of course might be something to do with opponents having proper and better right wingers/wing backs than they do left.
Left wingers these days seem to be mostly inverted meaning their attacks usually end up through the middle

Just like Gudmundsson, Bogle still gets caught out defensively. Only natural against top quality opponents. I suppose

Gud has created a fair few quality chances that haven’t been converted - the cross he provided for the Justin header off the bar was amazing quality considering the position he was in to deliver a peach of a cross.
A number of friends of mine who have coaching qualifications and presence in the game at a professional level deem him to be of real quality and a player who will attract a lot of interest at the end of the season from top clubs here and abroad.

I still think Farke is doing an excellent job atm.
Even great sages like Weasel considered it too defensive a set up with DCL likely to be isolated.
And then you watch the first 25 minutes and all that goes out the window.

Spot on, he was running on empty out there and was totally wrecked by about 70 minutes, even though he still scored after that but that's because he never gives up , I don't blame him one bit for that penalty as I think it's very unlucky and anyway the handball rule is a joke anyway, it should only be for deliberate handball and nothing elseOrange Box wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 8:29 am My view on that is the lad was absolutely knackered at that stage and was the best he could do to even get there when nobody else was giving a damn. I gave DF praise when it was due, but even the fairy on top of our Christmas tree could tell Brendan was cooked and should have been subbed earlier.

Re: Newcastle United v Leeds United Match Thread
I think he'd look and be even more effective if he had a left winger that he could work and link up with. Okafor is, at the moment, more miss than hit and TBH he's not been great all season. Half way through the season and he still does not appear to be completely fit or able to go 90 minutes at full tilt. Indeed, we're lucky if he can go more that 45 minutes and yet he seems to be first pick for that position. We have had a poor return from him. Coming on against the Barcodes last night he was completely anonymous and ineffective. He needs to go on an Aaronson type run to turn things around with the fans. It looks like a forlorn hope to me.DDB220 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 11:16 am Gud has created a fair few quality chances that haven’t been converted - the cross he provided for the Justin header off the bar was amazing quality considering the position he was in to deliver a peach of a cross.

Gnonto has had his injury and fitness issues but he is not one of Daniel Farke's favoured ones and then there is Harrisson who should be nowhere near a match day squad.
Gudmundsson has been a diamond for us

I agree.
Because we now play three at the back, both will be expected to make more offensive runs because in theory they have a bit more cover by Rodon/Bornauw and Struijk but they will be caught out now and again.
This season is about survival and if it means a few errors in both systems we play then we’ll have to live with it.
Even though we conceded four we still look a better bet with three at the back.

That's definitely not true, he has created plenty of chances that were not scored from and he has been involved in quite a few of our goals just not credited with assists as that only goes to the last person who touched it before the scorer which makes it a bullshit statThe Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:49 am And we won't get much from Justin going forward. I've not read the thread, but here's my twopenneth regardless.
Holy Hell what a game and I was saying that at 2-3.
Leeds definitely deserved something from the game, and to lose so late is heart breaking.
Not sure either of the given penalties were penalties.
Thiaw has been outstanding this season, but that was one of the worst CB displays I've ever seen before he was hooked. Can only assume he's not well.
Miley is class. 19yr old central midfielder, playing well at right back, shunted across to fill in at CB. Never once looked overwhelmed. I love him.
Hope all that traveled up had a good time regardless of the result.

Once again we have plenty of fans giving out about the added on time (injury time not extra time), 10 was added on (10 minimum not maximum) for subs, goals, var checks and the Schar injury, during those 10 minutes there were 3 subs, 2 goals which one was a penalty with a var review so all those things taken into account of course there's going to be much more than the minimum of 10, I don't get how folk don't understand that.

Ours certainly was, the defender used his arm to try to clear the ball. The motion to ball quite visible. Aaronson not so sure he was jumping at a cross so arms in air naturally and it hit his trailing hand. That one depended on the initial decision imo, not enough to overturn the referee, had he not given it, VAR wouldn't either. Half a pen.
The JoeLinton thing was a definite dive, worthy of a yellow

Reasonable thought, but why not take off Aaronson for Okafor instead? Shape was lost with Stach coming off and Tanaka was the logical choice. Fine margins, though.
