Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Have said it before but it's definitely worth repeating that without DCL we'd have been relegated this season.
That doesn't apply to just him of course as quite a few of our players have been absolutely vital to the overall team effort and it is a team game after all.

T'was in the Garden of Eden and God was taking a walk in the cool of the evening when he came across Adam and Eve.
"How nice to see you both. I hope you are both enjoying yourselves; is everything all right."
"Oh yes everything is wonderful but one odd thing. We keep seeing this old guy who is always grumbling and shuffling about."
"Ah, That's '64 White. He was here before I arrived."

And that I don't agree with.. We had a 15 goal a season scorer already at the club and I honestly think Piroe would have as many now as DCL... Massive leap for me to say no DCL and we're relegated, absolutely zero evidence of thatJammy 07 wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 4:46 pm Have said it before but it's definitely worth repeating that without DCL we'd have been relegated this season.

Piroe struggled in the cups against championship clubs.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I'd imagine your bowls would suffer if you only played a couple of ends every 3 months.. All strikers need continuity of playing time. DCL had that, Piroe didn't, doesn't make Piroe the poorer player, he's still the best finisher at the club.
You keep moaning about posters dissing players but you do it yourself with a few.

I just said there is no evidence Piroe would score as many as Calvert-Lewin.
Justin, Tanaka, Nmecha & Longstaff have all had limited appearances at times during this season, but found their form, scoring goals & making assists, 17 goals & 7 assists between them.

I find it curious Piroe gets written off so easily (and has been since the summer).1964white wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 7:36 pm I'm not dissing Piroe!

Nmecha played Championship football and was awful (at the same age as Nmecha was last time when he scored 0 goals in 13 for Boro Piroe scored 22 goals and got 6 assists for Swansea).
Aaronson has scored a few goals and got a few assists at this level playing in an attacking role.
Piroe is head and shoulders above him talent wise as the Championship showed.
We will never find out now of course but I firmly believe in the right system Piroe would have scored and created plenty imo.
Lest we forget playing ploddyball DCL got 1 goal in 11 games.
System is everything

As there's no evidence we go down without DCL... All we can do is speculate but some speculation is based in rationale1964white wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 7:36 pm I'm not dissing Piroe!

I'd be worried about Piroe playing for a promoted team next season. He's very capable of banging in 15 plus in a season, and as we've "lessened" him this season his value has gone.Cjay wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 7:49 pm I find it curious Piroe gets written off so easily (and has been since the summer).

Well obviously Marathe, Farke & the board had reservations & took the decision to go for physical strength & power!Cjay wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 7:49 pm I find it curious Piroe gets written off so easily (and has been since the summer).

I have trust & faith in our management & believe they made the correct decision for the good of the club, it's not about individuals or ones favourite players.
A couple of my favourite players may find themselves on the bench next season as we evolve as a club, but I'm not going to come on here & whinge & cry about the situation, especially as we are moving forward as a club.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I've never ever understood that argument of without his (any goalscoring foward) contribution we'd have been relegated or not been in the top 4 or challenging for the title or in the case of a keeper something similar, I always reply with, what we'd hardly have gone out on the field with 10 players, each and every contribution is helpful , it's a non argument but you can never know where or what could have been different with someone else, it's a non argument simple.
Remember a few year ago some pundit said about scum that without De Gea they would be relegated, well ya if they started with no keeper but hardly gonna start with 10

Granted that's not definitive evidence that we wouldn't have done so without him but certainly shows his positive effect on the team's outcome.
Regarding Piroe, I'm just relieved we didn't get to find out where we might have finished due to DCL doing the business.

Debating is now "whinging and crying" on here now.
Noted.

64white stated that he wouldn't whinge and cry should the scenario he described occur.
At no point did he infer that anyone else was already doing so.
That's how I read it anyway

That's fine, a 1+1=2 type conclusion, hard to argue against because it's true. We stay up and DCL was part of that.Jammy 07 wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 10:28 pm Well how about the fact that with DCL we will stay up ?

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
How about if a new striker starts next season, we lose 4 of the first 5, one point from 15 with DCL on the bench and our new striker hasn't gotten off the mark. Would you have a moan then?1964white wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 10:04 pm Well obviously Marathe, Farke & the board had reservations & took the decision to go for physical strength & power!

Hopefully, that won't be the case, that scenario may have occurred if we had signed Muniz or Strand-Larsen, huge fees on players who haven't pulled up any trees. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2026 11:13 pm How about if a new striker starts next season, we lose 4 of the first 5, one point from 15 with DCL on the bench and our new striker hasn't gotten off the mark. One thing I've learned this season is new signings require time to settle especially at PL level, the majority of our squad has improved as the season has progressed.
We have lost 5 of our last 27 matches (including the FA Cup Semi-Final) which is excellent for a newly promoted team.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this season, and fully appreciate the fantastic skills/work of Farke & his boys.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
If the likes of Rodon, Ampadu, Calvert-Lewin, Stach ended up on bench, due to new upgrade signings arriving at ER, I wouldn't keep harping on what might have been. Our squad needs to evolve in the future!
I'm hearing from a source, there could be upto eight to nine incomings & outgoings in the summer.

Re: Dominic Calvert-Lewin
We've had an excellent season, mostly thanks to the championship lads. I still think it was a poor to bang average summer window bar Stach and Justin.. We've benifitted greatly that's a much weaker league this season with several teams self destructing. Fingers crossed our recruitment team do better this summer.1964white wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2026 6:42 am Hopefully, that won't be the case, that scenario may have occurred if we had signed Muniz or Strand-Larsen, huge fees on players who haven't pulled up any trees.
