Re: Pascal Struijk to Brighton
I really wouldn't get all upset about Pascal leaving.
To players it's work/business and nothing more than that. Just because we are wedded to the club it doesn't mean that any player is, they are looking after their own interests and their own career.

Re: Pascal Struijk to Brighton
said it before and will say it again, the 49's management have no experience of dealing with football transfers. SAD but trueElKapitan wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2026 10:45 am Expect this deal to go through but some serious questions need to be asked at Leeds about squad management.....
Meslier.... 2 seasons ago worth 30 million gone on a free.
Piroe..... Played all of 10 minutes last season.... As champ top scorer worth 20 million..... Now we're hearing £7/10 million.
Gnonto..... Couple of seasons ago worth £35 million.... Bit part player at best last season.... Now looking at less than 10.
Gelhardt...... Less than £5 million.... Under bielsa he was valued at 15-20.....
Harrison..... Contract given to him with relegation loan clause was mental.... Again gone on a free when a few seasons ago he was worth 30 million.
Look at a Brighton, Brentford etc..... This is not how they progressed. They sold while the price was high and improved.
By far the most surprising thing about the 49'rs for me as I expected them to wheel and deal in the transfer market and sell well..... Even Summerville went on the cheap for me.
Now with Struijk..... One of the best performing defenders in the prem last year....25 million when we're seeing defenders of less proven ability going for £50+..... Again this isn't how teams progress.
Leeds need to bring in a midfielder who can score goals and a decent number 9 in Jan 2027.

Re: Pascal Struijk to Brighton
My guess is they sat down for a talk and couldn't say he'd be a starter. Bijol was supposed to be the replacement but he failed and we've been linked with a couple of left footed CB's already. I don't think the new financial system works for us this season and we have to sell to buy. As long as it's not on an inferior, harder to pronounce and spell name than Pascal's, for 25M.White Riot wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2026 12:07 pm I'm sad to see Pascal go, he's been a great servant for us.
My understanding is that he has one year left on his contract and Leeds offered him a new deal, but he wants to move on. So, good luck to him.
20 million is decent money for a player whose contract will expire next summer, and we cannot afford to let him leave on a free.
We now need two left footed CBs this summer, and hopefully they get recruited soon and bedded in with our defensive system.
If Guds goes then we need two LBs, as we are light already on that side of the pitch.
As good as Pascal and Guds have been, let's remember that our left flank was the main source of goals conceded, so plenty of improvement needs to occur in that area. No objection to Guds leaving, as long as Chelsea pay us daft money.
Good luck to Pascal, I don't blame anyone for wanting to advance their career. He will have wanted to play at the World Cup, but wasn't selected, so probably sees BHA, and European football, as a more direct path than waiting for us to reach their level.
Should be great for PSR, or whatever it's called?
Struijk had his best season for us. Minimum top 3 player, my POTS. Great servant to the club, doesn't deserve the mudslinging. The quiet leader.. I'll miss him

But that is the way with posts, give them a patina of truth, so that they sound believable, and you can pass off any old guff.
Verisimilitude is the quality of appearing to be true or real, and it may not have been apparent that very often when I write on here, I present an absurd alternate reality.
Rather than say someone is wrong I will concoct some stupid waffle to form a counter argument, hoping that everyone will realise that my argument is more stupid than the one I am arguing against.

I'm not so good with maths but is that two times you have said it?
Probably that is why they had that guy in for a while who was known to be good at ascertaining a player's true value. Probably our transfer guys learnt a lot from him, before he left, and as such now, like anybody getting a promotion in a well run company, they can do it successfully on their own now.
£20m does seem a little low, but then he is in the last year of his contract and has had recurring hip problems. Yet to make an international appearance too.

Pascal to Brighton for 20m....Brighton have just sold their centre back to Spares for 52m. Surely we could have squeezed more out of them for Pascal....

Re: Pascal Struijk to Brighton
I'm hearing a lot of "its good money for someone with one year left on their contract".....
Sure is.....
That's why you negotiate earlier and if they won't commit with 2 years to go you get rid for a premium....
This is the only way a new prem club improves while keeping within psr..... Brighton just got 52 million for a player objectively not performing at the level of Struijk last season.
Harrison..... Gnonto..... Tanaka..... Piroe...... Meslier..... Low value incoming players who we've paid most of the fee for and are now high reward if sold for decent value. Should have been at least 60 million in profit for these before struijk.

Re: Pascal Struijk to Brighton
What a shame Pascal doesn't want to stay. He's been a really great servant over the years and leaves with my best wishes. I really wanted us to keep this defensive unit together for next season but it is what it is. However, if you'd have told me we had to lose one of Rodon, Bijol or Struijk this summer I would have reluctantly chosen Pascal. Fingers crossed GG stays put and we can find someone to replace Pascal. I'm not confident we would hit the ground running next season in that area should both leave.

I think I'm right in saying he's elligable for both the Netherlands and Belgium. I'm amazed he's never been selected for eitherweasel wrote: ↑Sun Jun 28, 2026 1:20 pm I'm not so good with maths but is that two times you have said it?
