I think the big difference here is that we are not losing a player that is going to be going into their first team. Despite him leaving as our current first choice keeper they haven't taken someone who was likely to be starting next season, or certainly not the following season (we may have decided to stick with Darlow for another season if we couldn't get someone else in, or we decided to spend money elsewhere).
I like Darlow, he came in and did a pretty decent job in both our promotion season and last but I feel no animosity to him going there. Hopefully we buy better

Had we guaranteed him number 1 and he'd still gone probably be different.
But he asked and we said no so he took a lot more money to sit on someone else's bench.

I've no animosity, throw away one liner earlier. He was a journeyman keeper who did ok with his chance at ER, he got better the more he played but goalkeepers do that. Perri would have

Football is such a transient sport now in terms of player loyalty. Why worry. The skill is in replacing what you sell. One eye on now & one on the future.
Its really a skill in itself.

Darlows contract did run out in June but before this he was offered a new one with no guarantees. This shows Leeds wanted to keep him
not like the French Matchstick. So imo, its not the same........

My original post was a question, would you be upset if Mes was leaving us to go to them rather than Darlow. I asked to see if you were upset because Darlow was going to them or because you just didn't want Darlow to leave, I think I have the answer now
Looks like we are going to get a new keeper now anyway, so we can forget about the pair of them and get behind the new lad

Clubs generally don't have 2 keepers competing for the starting position so they sign keepers who are happy to not play. You want some level of experience and ability though you aren't really wanting them to have to play.
Darlow has proved capable enouhg without being exceptional. Steady rather than spectacular. In the short term MU have made a much better choice than Arsenal. If Reya gets injured and Arsenal have to play a lot of games with Meslier I think it will cost them - and it isn't even like he would get away with being poor cos wouldn't have much to do as his flaws were exposed with us in the championship despite not having much to do.
Of course if Meslier hardly plays it is likely his value goes up, such is the crazy world of football, and Arsenal will then at some point sell him for a tidy profit.
