Overall great performance

First time this season we've looked convincing overall

Will ignore the late goal we conceded from that (annoying though)

Thought Farke got it right going Stach/Tanaka not trying to shoehorn In Aaronson or Wilson.

Tarik was immense and made 2 really important defensive contributions.

Bogle had his best game for ages as did Gudmundsson and Okafor and Calvert-Lewin took the goals well

Pleased by and large.

Don't think we will see Bohoya though which is a shame, his pecking order position seems fixed as tonight was ideal

And Trafford looked very dodgy with the ball at his feet

Tanaka hopefully coming of age now. Did have one sloppy moment but apart from that another very good performance by him.

Thought Okafor was excellent, sure not everything comes off but such a threat.

Tricky situation with Bohaya given that we don't play with out and out wingers. May also be that if the obligation to buy is based on matches played then it may be that it isn't just starts and as such a 5 minute cameo might count as a full performance.

This is the key for me. Farke went back to the same setup that worked so well for us last season. The 3-5-2 is still our best set up. But instead of Aaronson in the midfield, it was Tanaka. And aside from a couple of mistakes, I thought he was very good today.

All the underlying XG stats suggested Newcastle were lucky to be unbeaten before tonight. Don’t see them as potential relegation candidates though.

No Elanga and Osula is a big loss I'd imagine.

Lot of pace and directness in those two which is a big part of a red bull team.

Surprised how slow they were on the ball though, lot of meaningless possession which isn't very Red Bull.

We were to well organised for them and strong I think.

No Joelinton as well whose a tank in midfield

Tanaka is so involved in games he plays in that small errors are a fact of life. For the most part he's a very cultured central mid who gives us a lot more oplus better balance than either Wilson or Aaronson

For me I think we looked at our best last season with Aaronsen in the team instead of Tanaka but I do think, and hope, that Tanaka is getting used to being a premier league player. Definitely now it seems Tanaka has gone ahead of Aaronsen.

Okafor has had plenty of criticism for his poor defensive efforts so only fair that Aaronson gets the same.

Tanaka had that one moment but he takes risks rather than playing the safe ball, he's bound to give it away on occasion but what he offers positively is so much more.

Does all the running BA does but much better on the ball.

I thought Okafor did well and his workrate was better than usual, took the goal well.

But saw a few moments I'd imagine where he must frustrate managers (overplaying in stupid areas).

Hopefully will come with time as tonight a very pacey winger against an open and desperate Newcastle seemed ideal, Wilson isn't really much use in those situations.

Does concern me we just have another not his preference so will barely play type as he is clearly very gifted.

I agree with all of this. And it's a bit unexpected because Aaronson had a good pre-season. But right now Tanaka is the clear pick!

I agree with all of this. And it's a bit unexpected because Aaronson had a good pre-season. But right now Tanaka is the clear pick!

The good thing is that we now have a squad with good options. If someone has a dip in form then hopefully someone like Aarosnen comes in and has a purple patch of form. Can see a bit where Dan James has one of his patches of form and scores a few. We also saw Longstaff have some good games pre-season.

Don't worry Cjay, go a nd have a lie down and you'll soon be back to finding any ways to knock Leeds. Christ we only just scraped past a team that had more injuries than those suffered in the first world war.
